Vice

"The beauty and the beast in one! Be prepared for pain if she catches you with her grip! VICE."
The King of Fighters XV

Vice (バイス) is a character in The King of Fighters series. She first appeared in The King of Fighters '95 as one of Rugal Bernstein's secretaries, then appeared as a member of the Yagami Team in The King of Fighters '96. Her official nickname is "The Throbbing Brutal Sadist" (躍動やくどうする残忍ざんにん嘲笑ちょうしょう).[1]

Development

Both she and Mature are descendants of Orochi with Vice being the "cruel" one of the duo. Both women were still being developed during location testing and were likely finished near the end of the game's production schedule.[2][3]

Personality

Vice is an intensely sadistic and violent individual who takes immense pleasure in inflicting pain and death upon others. Unlike Mature's more sophisticated approach to cruelty, Vice is direct and brutal, often expressing excitement at the sound of breaking bones and her victims' screams. Her partnership with Mature, while not exactly friendship, demonstrates her ability to work cooperatively when it serves their mutual goals.

Despite her brash nature and murder at Iori's hands, and the fact he belongs to the Yasakani bloodline, an enemy of theirs, she and Mature seem genuinely concerned for his wellbeing and respect his wishes rather than their loyalty to Orochi. This is also despite Iori's frequent hostilities towards them.

She holds a grudge against Saisyu Kusanagi due to his resistance taking her a great deal of unexpected effort to be able to brainwash him in the first place, not to mention being a natural enemy of theirs, and it's due of the nature of this grudge that she despises old men in general, for instance showing total disdain towards Gang-il.

Vice, as part of the Hakkesshu, maintains a regard of protection of nature. During the pre-match dialogue with Nakoruru, both show their mutual concern about it, yet Vice's vision involves the destruction of mankind rather than the peaceful approach that Nakoruru intends. Out of all the lesser Hakkesshus, she is the most vocal of her hatred of humans in general.

Fighting style

Vice does not adhere to a specific fighting style; instead, she relies on her immense physical strength. As one of the first female grapplers in the series, she employs a variety of throws to corner her opponents and disrupt their attacks. During fights, Vice frequently taunts her adversaries, either by sarcastically commenting on the damage she is about to inflict or by commanding them to surrender. Her hyper super desperation move in 2002 UM also suggests she might go as far as eating her opponents.

Initially, Vice's moves included more slashing attacks, but in her subsequent appearances, she shifted towards using powerful punches and aggressive moves like body slams and shoulder charges. In her latest appearances, her style has evolved to focus on drawing her opponents in close, allowing her to relentlessly punish them with grabs and violent combinations.
