He is voiced by Nobuyuki Hiyama.
Development
His design was meant to mirror Mixed Martial Artists and his design was probably based on real life fighters, Kazushi "The Gracie Hunter" Sakuraba or Caol Uno. He is also based on manga character Baki Hanma from Baki the Grappler.
His appearance in The King of Fighters XI was meant to be added as a surprise for fans. Developers had to completely rearrange his moveset from Buriki One to better fit the KOF style.
Story
Though yet to make his official debut, Gai Tendo is a gifted fighter, training from a young age. A self-taught martial artist, Gai used his natural fighting ability and instincts to create his own personal style of mixed martial arts. Entering the Buriki One tournament to "Win a bet", Gai holed himself up in the mountains of Okinawa to prepare himself. Gai cleared the the qualifiers, defeating all of his opponents by knockout in under 5 minutes, gaining himself a lot of attention from the spectators, in the lead-up the tournament.
Personality
Very brash and noisy, Gai is the type of person that doesn't think before he acts. He is a fighter at heart.
Fighting style
His fighting style, Total Combat is based on Mixed Martial Arts. He fights with chain combos of punches, elbow strikes, kicks and shin kicks.
