Andy Bogard (アンディ・ボガード) is a character in both the Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series. He is Terry Bogard's younger brother. His official nickname is "The Human Weapon"[2] or "Whole Body Weapon" (
Personality
Andy is a quiet and stoic individual who is deeply focused on self-improvement. While he generally maintains a serious demeanor, he can become visibly flustered when confronted with his insecurities, such as his height, often masking his embarrassment with boastful remarks that hint at underlying self-doubt. Among his friends, Andy takes on the role of a reserved and analytical observer. Throughout his life, he has never managed to win a fight against his older brother, which has contributed to his sense of inferiority. Despite this, Andy greatly respects his brother and feels a strong need to surpass him one day. Regardless of their rivalry, the brothers share a solid bond and are dependable companions in everyday tasks, combat, and even during their travels.
Thanks to his ninjutsu training, Andy has developed exceptional acrobatic abilities, allowing him to perform complex maneuvers with ease. His ninja training has also made him highly proficient in stealth, enabling him to move undetected when necessary. Additionally, he is an avid cyclist and is skilled at navigating short laps, showcasing his athletic versatility.
In the Fatal Fury timeline, Andy is aware of Mai Shiranui's affection for him but views her more like a younger sister, as he began training with Hanzo at a very young age and has since dedicated his life to martial arts. Unfortunately for Mai, this means her advances are often overlooked. However, in The King of Fighters timeline, Andy is actually in love with Mai, though he seldom expresses it. He feels he is not yet mature enough to balance both marriage and his training. While he is often bewildered by Mai's actions, Andy remains committed to protecting her. Their dynamic is frequently used for comedic relief in both the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series, but as the series progresses, their relationship takes on a more serious tone.
Fighting style
Andy has a unique fighting style that sets him apart from his brother Terry, emphasizing formal martial arts training and the mastery of ancient techniques. Unlike Terry, who incorporates street fighting into his combat style, Andy has rigorously trained in Koppouken, an old Japanese martial art. Koppouken combines elements of Karate and Ninjutsu, but focusing on striking vulnerable points and breaking bones to incapacitate opponents. After mastering Koppouken, Andy sought to further enhance his skills by training in Shiranui-ryuu Ninjutsu under Hanzo Shiranui. This training allowed him to integrate fast, blink-like movements, chi control, and acrobatic maneuvers into his fighting repertoire.
One of Andy's signature abilities is the Hishou Ken, a chi energy projectile he can launch from his hands. He can also amplify the potency of his punches and kicks by channeling chi energy through them. Additionally, Andy can infuse his attacks with fire, surrounding his body in flames to further intensify the damage dealt.
Despite Andy's extensive formal training, he has often struggled to match his brother Terry's prowess. This discrepancy may be attributed to Terry's extensive experience in street fighting, which has honed his instincts and adaptability in ways that formal training cannot. Nevertheless, both brothers continually strive to refine their abilities, demonstrating a shared dedication to their craft, with both brothers complementing how the other has improved as they continually spar and fight against each other to be stronger in their own ways.

- Andy's Japanese speech patterns has changed a bit over the years. In his debut, he referred to Terry as "Ani-shaa" (兄貴), the archaic version for the "big brother". Since Fatal Fury 3, however, he calls him the more common phrase for "older brother", "Nii-san" (
兄 さん). He also used to refer to himself as "boku" before using the more formal "watashi" and masculine "ore". - Andy is predominantly a diminutive version of the male given name Andrew, and variants of it such as Andreas and Andrei. Andrew is derived from the Greek name Andreas, meaning "manlike" or "brave".
- According to Terry's character album, he is well aware of Andy's desires to surpass him and recognizes him to be his greatest living rival. To counter his brother's effort, Terry constantly strives to improve himself by fighting stronger opponents.
- In Neo-Geo Freak 1998, the characters in KOF '98 have their own interviews. Here are Andy's response to the questions.[4]
- What is your aspiration in this competition? - "If you don't care about the two letters of the championship, it's a lie. I intend to relax enough and come to the tournament."
- Who would you like to fight the most? - "My brother."
- Who would you like to team up with? / Who would you not like to team up with? - "The ones I team up with, is Joe and my brother. However, I feel sorry for Mai every year, so I would like to join with Mai once. Billy is the man who I don't want to team up with."

- Finally, please give a word to your fans. - "Please refer carefully to the result of the lesson well."
- In Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture, Terry loses to the CPU Andy in the arcade game he was playing.
- It was an open secret at SNK that Andy was the older Bogard brother in the planning stage for Fatal Fury: King of Fighters.
- In the later entries of The King of Fighters series, such as '99 and 2001, Mai teases Andy with a bunshin projection of what appears to be their child, with him being genuinely shocked of her antics. This indirectly implies that his relationship with Mai is more intimate than what is told of. This is also humorously touched upon in one of the endings in the Real Bout series.
