Sage was a resident of the Valley of the Sphinx.
History
The Maze of the Sphinx (flashback)
Sage welcomed Wu and Garmadon to the Valley of the Sphinx and introduced himself. Wu asked where they were and if they were near the Northern Ocean, while Garmadon questioned the Pyramid of the Sphinx. Sage invited them for tea and promised to answer their questions. As they walked through the marketplace, Garmadon asked about the special tea that grew on the shores of the Northern Ocean, but Sage mentioned had never left the valley. They entered Sage's stall, and Sage asked Mina if there was tea. She confirmed and welcomed the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master. They sat on a rug, and Sage served them tea and cakes. After finishing his meal, Wu asked for clarification on their location.
Sage responded with indifference, stating that he and the villagers never left the valley and that a Sphinx provided for their needs. Wu was unfamiliar with the creature and Sage explained that the Sphinx lived inside the pyramid and granted wishes. However, if displeased, the Sphinx would send out beetle warriors to punish them. Sage confirmed that none of the villagers had ever seen the Sphinx and survived to tell the tale, and all their knowledge came from ancient scrolls. Garmadon questioned the villagers' devotion to a possibly non-existent monster, and suggested they should rise up and fight instead. Sage warned him not to speak too loudly, as the Sphinx might hear him. Garmadon proposed they visit the Sphinx to grant their wishes. However, Sage advised against it, as it was easy to anger the Sphinx. Wu interrupted, asking if there was another village nearby. Garmadon abruptly left, and Wu apologized to Sage and Mina for his brother's behavior before chasing after him.
