The Announcers are off-screen characters in the Metal Slug series.
Information
The Announcer provides information on what's going on screen such as collecting an item, entering a new mission, or a player's status. Most of the time they'll yell in an exaggerated manner often humorously mispronouncing words (e.g. "Rock-it Lawnchair" or "Mow-bee-al Sat-tall-light").
As new weapons and characters are introduced in the series, a new announcer will voice them. Bits and pieces of previous announcers are sometimes heard in newer games.
Voice Clips
Below are a list of lines each announcer shouts. Those with a [U] are unused. Since their voice actors are unknown, they'll be referred by ordinal numbers:
- 1st: Metal Slug and Metal Slug 2.
- 2nd: Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5, Metal Slug Advance, Metal Slug Defense, and Metal Slug Attack.
- 3rd: Metal Slug 6, Metal Slug 3D, and Metal Slug 7.
- 4th: Metal Slug XX.

Metal Slug: 2nd Mission
The announcer in Metal Slug: 2nd Mission is different from the others due to using a different weapon set. His voice clips include the following:
Line | Audio |
---|---|
"Metal Slug: 2nd Mission!" | |
"Heavy Machine Gun!" | |
"Rocket Launcher!" | |
"Grenade Gun!" | |
"Shotgun!" | |
"Bazooka!" | |
"Fire Gun!" | |
"Missile Pod!" | |
"Pineapple!" | |
"Missiles!" |
Note that having the announcer on causes the music to start over anytime he speaks.
Trivia
- The first announcer also provides the voice for the golfers in Neo Turf Masters, another game by Nazca Corporation in association with SNK.
- In Metal Slug 4, the second announcer's voice is sometimes slowed down. In Metal Slug Advance, his voice is sped up.
- Only in the Xbox 360/Xbox One versions of Metal Slug XX does the 4th announcer shout the Final Mission. In any other version, it is instead shouted by the 3rd announcer.
- Metal Slug 4 and Metal Slug 5 both split the sound effects into separate sound files (for example, the gun cocking sound before the weapon name and "Mission" "3" "Start"). Metal Slug 4 has an unused "Six" announcer clip (S.E Set: 186F) not found in previous games. Putting the sound clips together gives this:
