Tianyu

Tianyu (天祐, Tianyu^?) is an apprentice court physician in the outer court. He is a minor character in The Apothecary Diaries.

Personality

Tianyu is an enthusiastic, perceptive and chatty apprentice court physician. His passion and enthusiasm towards dissection and surgery can come across as unsettling to others. His curiosity leads him to enjoy meddling in others' affairs, to their dismay. Tianyu also seems to enjoy indulging in gossip and spreading rumours with his co-workers.^[2] His intrusive behavior often annoys his colleagues very much, resulting in him often being ignored by them. He has been described as "something of a worthless excuse for a man" by Maomao.^[2] As for his relations, harbors a notable crush on En'en, making several advances towards her.

Abilities

• Dissection: Comes from a family of hunters, he learned to dissect the animals they hunted.
• Surgery: It annoys Maomao that he is demonstrably better at surgical work than she is.

He undertook the physician's practical examination in the same batch of students as Maomao, and was the only other student of that group to pass. This was however not his first try; he'd been rejected repeatedly for not taking the work seriously enough.^[2] He would volunteer for the Western Capital expedition, where he completed his first live surgery, removing a gastrolith from a child's intestine.^[3]

He frequently calls Maomao "Niang-Niang," a title used for Imperial Consorts and the Empress. Frequently reprimanded by Court Physician Li.
