Seki-u (
Appearance
The youngest of three nearly identical sisters, Seki-u wears a red ribbon in her hair to differentiate her from Haku-u (white ribbon) and Koku-u (black ribbon). Maomao describes the sisters as having almond-shaped eyes and charcoal-drawn eyebrows.[2] In the bathhouse, Seki-u was revealed to be well endowed, but wishes to be "flat as a board".
Personality
Like her older sisters, Seki-u is outwardly very guarded and somewhat judgmental. However, she is much more insecure and uncomfortable in new environments, going so far as to ask Gyokuyou for permission to bathe in the Jade Pavilion instead of the palace baths.[2] Being loyal to Gyokuyou, Seki-u was displeased when Maomao, a fellow lady-in-waiting, would associate with Lishu, another consort.[3]
Background
Seki-u grew up in the Western Capital as part of the Yi Clan. When she was three years old, the rebellion against the Yi clan occurred. Seki-u was evacuated to the house of Gyokuyou's mother, along with her mother, sisters, and Rikuson, to hide from Gyoku-ou's supporters.
Seki-u later went with her sisters to become new ladies-in-waiting for Gyokuyou in the rear palace. Being in a new environment, she initially stayed with her sisters and used Gyokuyou's private bath, but later started going to the bathhouse with Maomao at her sisters' urging. Joined by Xiaolan and Shisui, Seki-u became a bathhouse attendant.
Due to knowing Shisui, Seki-u was able to decipher Maomao's incomplete note. She read the incomplete character as 'jade', which clued Jinshi into searching for the maidservant Shisui.[4]
Seki-u remained friends with Xiaolan after both Maomao and Shisui disappeared. After Xiaolan's term in the rear palace ended, Seki-u delivered Maomao letters from Xiaolan to both her and Shisui.[5]
Trivia
