Taihou

Taihou is the biological grandmother of Suirei. She is a minor character in The Apothecary Diaries.

Maoamao noted Taihou's ghost to be beautiful, albeit aged.

Background

Taihou was a lady-in-waiting of Shenmei during her time as a consort in the Inner Court. A friend of Shenlü and a fellow sexual victim of the Former Emperor, she became the mother of his eldest illegitimate child, a baby girl, at the mere age of 10. The sexual assault was pinned on a court physician; the physician and the child were then banished from the Imperial Palace, while Taihou was shunned by her mistress but forbidden from leaving the Inner Court for the rest of her days.

Taihou worked alongside Shenlü and other sexual victims of the Former Emperor in the unofficial clinic for palace ladies, which was established by Empress Anshi to house the former bedmates of the Former Emperor. For many years, her greatest joy in life was telling horror stories in not-so-secret hangouts. She died a few months prior to Maomao's time at the Imperial Palace.
