Inferno is a fearless Autobot who has a fire truck as his vehicle form. Inferno enjoys receiving attention when saving lives and extinguishing fires however is easily distracted, getting involved in combat preferring the heat of battle to the heat of a burning building which was caused by any human disasters or a Decepticon invasion.
Inferno was voiced by the late Walker Edmiston. Like his fellow Autobot Ironhide, Inferno speaks with a thick southern US accent, provided by his voice actor.
History
Inferno made his debut in the episode "Dinobot Island, Part 2", alongside his friend, the fellow Autobot Red Alert, with no explanation or origin. He was featured prominently in the episode "Auto-Beserk", also alongside Red Alert. In the episode "Prime Target", Inferno was captured by big game hunter Lord Cholmondeley, along with many other Autobots in an attempt to lure Optimus Prime into a trap. Inferno is part of a team of three led by Ironhide to track down Optimus Prime on Cybertron in "The Search for Alpha Trion", and meets his old flame Firestar. Inferno was also one of four Autobots not to get his circuits scrambled by Kremzeek. He was last seen in the episode "Masquerade" and had a few brief cameos in a few episodes of "The Headmasters".
Comics
Inferno was seen among the Earth Autobots in a flashback in the UK story "Decepticon Dam Busters" and the annual story "Missing in Action", where he, Hoist and Grapple searched for a missing Tracks. This was ignored subsequently with him next appearing in the post-movie era in "The Legacy of Unicron", where he and Smokescreen were assigned by Rodimus Prime to escort Wreck-Gar back to Junkion. There, they discovered the Junkions under the control of Unicron, who was also stirring up the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. Inferno was injured by Unicron's servant Death's Head before Smokescreen got him off planet. Under attack by Cyclonus and Scourge and with their shuttle damaged, Inferno threw Smokescreen overboard, telling him to warn Rodimus Prime, and crashed the shuttle into the Decepticons.
Inferno returned in the present day in "Firebug" where he, Sandstorm and Broadside arrived on Earth to monitor for Galvatron and dealt with a firebug. In "Cold Comfort and Joy", the trio tried to join in a town's Christmas celebrations but accidentally caused a panic and were then jumped by Getaway, Joyride and Slapdash who mistook them for Decepticons. In "Time Wars", they were joined on Earth by Springer and the rest of the Wreckers, along with Carnivac and the Decepticon Mayhem Squad, for a confrontation with Galvatron. The battle went badly and Inferno was injured but helped to the shelter of their spacecraft.
"Survivors" reveals that Inferno, Springer and Broadside were the only Autobots to survive the encounter. They are contacted by their surviving Decepticon allies Carnivac and Catilla, since all of them are now stranded on Earth. They then came across Skids, recently released from limbo along with a group of demons. Together, they managed to defeat the creatures and formed the Survivors group. This resulted in Snarler forming a new Decepticon Mayhem Squad to hunt down his former associates. Inferno helped chase them off when they attacked Carnivac, but not before they killed Catilla.
This storyline was continued in Marvel UK's Earthforce storyline, where Inferno and the others convinced Springer to contact Grimlock and the Autobot Earthforce for help when Carnivac went after the Mayhems alone, leading to the Survivors joining the Earthforce. In "Divide and Conquer", Inferno and the other Survivors stopped Starscream hijacking an oil tanker, with Inferno knocking him overboard after Skids froze him. His last Earthforce appearance was in "Shut Up" where he was guarding captive surviving Mayhems Bludgeon, Octopunch and Stranglehold, only to be tricked into lowering the forcefield and overpowered.
Inferno finally appeared in the Marvel US title in Issue #67, as part of an alternate future where Unicron had destroyed Cybertron and the Decepticons had conquered North America. Inferno was part of a small group of surviving Autobots led by Prowl hoping to achieve a victory against Galvatron before the humans launched a nuclear assault on the area. He, Prowl and Jazz were the only ones left standing when Galvatron was dragged into the past by Unicron's heralds Hook, Line and Sinker.
He made his first present day US appearance in Issue #78 as one of the Autobots evacuating Cybertron. In the final issue, he was among those killed in Bludgeon's ambush and revived by the Last Autobot. The UK annual story "The Magnificent Six" revealed he was once part of an Autobot unit with Prowl, Jazz, Wheeljack and Sunstreaker, who were captured by insane Decepticon leader Megadeath and tortured to the point that they simply stood and watched as he murdered their colleague Stampede in front of them. Returning to the region in the present day with Silverbolt, they were again captured by Megadeath but managed to overcome him and left him to die when he triggered an explosive built into his body.
