Fading Mother (消えゆくマザー Kieyuku Mazā) is the 277th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Edens Zero.
Mother starts to fade, but Shiki reveals his plan to save her.
Summary
The crew on the Edens Zero notices space warping, which Hermit realizes that Ether is rapidly declining throughout the cosmoses and speculates that something happened to Mother. At the rate it is going, then in the near future, humans will not be able to survive and eventually neither will machines.
As Mother is fading away, Happy wonders if this was really the best idea. Rebecca notes that they would lose everyone, including Shiki, again if he saved Mother. Shiki then states that he made sure their "now" is secured, trusting that Mother will get the results she promised, in that everyone who is alive in this Universe stays alive. He then declares that he is planning to save Mother. Wanting everyone to hear his explanation, he asks Pino to connect them to the Zero.
After explaining what happened, Shiki tells them his plan to change Mother back to her planet form, as that she herself said that it would save her. Since Mother is a planet, if she gets eaten a Chronophage, then she will change back into a planet. Weisz points out that the planet was already dying by then and used the last of its power to Overdrive into Mother, meaning that it will just repeat again. Shiki knows this, speculating that it might have happened many times. This time, however, they will stop the planet from being destroyed, as their technology might be good enough. Weisz wonders how are they gonna get Chronophage here. Shiki reminds them of Operation Planet Eater. Hermit counters that the Chronophage happened to be nearby, but thinks of a way that they can summon one and bring into this cosmos.
Shiki then asks Pino to connect them to Ziggy. His grandfather angrily asks if he erased Mother, but Shiki tells him to do him a favor as he plans to save Mother. He tells Ziggy to keep Void busy as they will be in trouble if he figures out what they are doing. Ziggy immediately punches Void on the face, saying that nothing could be easier.
Shiki then asks Rebecca for her help to summon the Chronophage again. She accepts but asks if he really thinks this will work, which he does. He then states that he still has one last job to do. Once everything is works out, he is going to destroy the Chronophage.
