Universe (ユニバース Yunibāsu?) is a term used to refer to parallel worlds.[1] Noah Glenfield's original term, World (号世界 Sekai?), was used to refer to the world after Rebecca Bluegarden uses her Cat Leaper;[2] this numbering system counts the times that Rebecca has done a simple time leap.[3]
Creation
There are two types of changes that results in a new world number. The first comes from Reverse, a 90-second time leap that causes virtually no changes to the world overall. It may cause a tremendous change around the user, but history will eventually correct and converge towards its predetermined future, ultimately not changing the greater future. The second comes from Cat Leaper, which does not only move the user through time but transports into another world, parallel to the previous one. These are referred to as Universes.[1]
Known Universes
Universe 0
Universe 0 (ユニバース 0 Yunibāsu 0?) is the origin point where all time converges and all universes and worlds stem from. The robots from planet Eden have been observing every other universe, where in nearly everyone of them humans had gone extinct 20,000 years ago by their time and the cosmoses' Ether dries up. They believe that Universe 0 is the only world with the potential for a better outcome and has a strong possibility that the events here affect all other universes.[4] After opening the door to Etherion, the Edens Zero begins its voyage to Universe 0. The Crew of Edens are then separated, going through their lives again without their memories from previous Universes.[5][6] When Rebecca, Happy, and Shiki meet each other again on Granbell, their memories return to them.[7]
Notable Differences
Just like the other Universes, Universe 0 has a number of changes:
- Happy is no longer a Machine, but rather a real cat.[8]
- Granbell does not have an Ether deficiency problem, where the robots have enough Ether to last a millennium.[9]
- Drakken Joe only stole the life force of animals instead and is less malicious than his counterparts in other Universes.
- Because of this, Irma is still alive and is residing with her son[10] while Weisz Steiner (X492) didn't lose his right arm.
- Sister Ivry is the leader of Rogue Out instead of her impostor and that Rogue Out is a vigilante group instead of a mercenary squad.[11]
- Nero has partnered with Drakken, being a member of the Element 4 as the water element instead of Laguna Husert, who is now the leader of the rebel army Oasis and that he gave his empire to his adoptive son Shura.[12]
- Müller is not involved with Hermit and the Rutherford siblings' history, thus Planet Hook was not destroyed and is recovering, after which Hermit decided to spend her time in Digitalis. Jinn becomes an O-tech by his own choice, as on his planet implants are a part of life, in order to adapt to the planet's atmosphere. Kleene did not become one as she was afraid,[13] and her emotional state is normal.[14] They joined Drakken's Organization because they had taken the wrong directions when they went to study abroad.
- In addition, Müller has stolen Xenolith's powers and identity in which he used it to crush Foresta into oblivion with his Satan Gravity.
- Valkyrie Yuna was beheaded on Oedo 5 years ago but was later repaired by Creed and went to Sun Jewel to wait for Homura. Kurenai and the Zaiten Three are instead defenders, where they, along with Eagle, Van, and Yak, are known as "The Punishers", protecting the city from Stones that surface from the blockade zone.
- Because Ziggy was not possessed by the Edens One's A.I., instead it has created and possesses a new body known as Over Nu Etherion Void, Ziggy's son, who commands the now-complete Four Dark Stars.
- Drakken Joe, Poseidon Nero, Elsie Crimson and Rachel are not members of the Oración Seis Galáctica. Only God Acnoella and Deadend Cure, formerly an Oración Seis Interstellar member in previous Universe, remains.
- In addition, Lady Freyja, Lightning Law, Joker Helix, and Xenolith are Galáctica members in this Universe.
- Goodwin is now a small cat instead of a giant cat.
- Amira and Victory are now part of the Oración Seis Interstellar.
- In addition, Nadia, Elsie Crimson and Rachel are also part of the Interstellar Union Army as the directors of the Aoi Cosmos, Kaede Cosmos and Yukino Cosmos Sectors respectively.
- Elsie Crimson didn't lose her right eye.
Universe 1
Universe 1 (ユニバース 1 Yunibāsu 1?) is the initial world that takes place. It had 29 known Worlds before Rebecca had jumped to Universe 2 a week after the death of Shiki at the hands of Drakken Joe.[17]
Universe 2
Universe 2 (ユニバース 2 Yunibāsu 2?) started after Rebecca awakened her Cat Leaper, jumping into a new world and waking in the infirmary of the Edens Zero, just before Shiki's group leaves to sneak into the Belial Gore.[17][18] Initially World No. 30, the number increased after Rebecca masters the Reverse time leap. When Shiki faces the option of either staying on Nero 66 to stop the antimatter bombs or escaping the planet, he chooses the latter, jumping out of Universe 2.[19] Noah assumes that if they had stayed, they would have most likely have been destroyed.[20]
There are several changes between Universe 2 and 1; the Edens Zero Crew's trip to Sun Jewel lasted only a day due to there being no debris field in the way,[21] the Edens One avoids its horrific accident,[22] which in turn, Connor is never rescued by the Edens Zero.[23]
Universe 3
Universe 3 (ユニバース 3 Yunibāsu 3?) exists outside the wheel of time,[24] and started after the Edens Zero Crew escapes the destruction of Nero 66.[19] Because of Rebecca's usage of Reverse, it has reached up to World No. 416 prior to her conversation with Noah.[3]
There are several changes between Universe 3 and 2; the Edens Zero Crew does not meet Connor when they face against the Edens One around Granbell, here Connor is not part of the Edens One, instead he was a collaborator on Lendard before escaping it.[25] His tattoo on his wrist instead says Freedom Force, a rebel group that tried to take down the Nero Empire but failed.[26]
Universe 3173
Universe 3173 (ユニバース3173 Yunibāsu 3173?) is the home universe of an alternate Shiki. Its history is nearly identical to both Universe 2 and 3, up until the moment Shiki was given the decision to either leave Nero 66 or stop the 20,000 antimatter bombs from exploding. In this universe, Shiki choose to stay behind where his attempt to use his gravity had inadvertently resonated with Rebecca's time leaping ability. This caused a massive spacetime distortion that caused a large explosion, where it brought the two into the future. Because every antimatter bomb had enough energy to jump forward by 1 year, it caused them to jump 20,000 years into the future. However, the explosion had killed Rebecca, leaving Shiki the sole survivor in a future where Mother nor humanity no longer exists.[27]
Notably, according to Ziggy, he does not exist here nor does the Edens Zero, yet Shiki still sets out into space, takes part in the Aoi War, and gets flung 20,000 years into the future. Ziggy notes that this is a fixed point in almost every universe, after which he is born and this affects the course of events in all other universes.[28]
