Shiki's Choice (ツキの決断 Shiki no Ketsudan) is the 276th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Edens Zero.
Now knowing the past, Shiki makes his choice to decide Mother's fate.
Summary
15 years ago, the Edens Zero has almost reached Granbell, where the Shining Stars reminisce about memories that are not real and wonder why Ziggy made them look human. This makes him feel guilty and thinks that he is trampling over the feelings of the original humans. A few days later he decided to release them from their roles as his Four Shining Stars, sending them off to do what they want. He thinks this is for the best and in his mind, thanks them for the few weeks they spent together. He contacts the One's A.I. asking for its progress. It reports that the Edens One's construction and the production of the male Shining Stars units are underway. Ziggy orders it to cancel these, not needing a spare Zero and not wanting to create more androids with fake memories. He thanks it for its service and asks it to rest.
In the present, Ziggy remarks that he should have stopped him himself. Void notes that by then the One already gained the ability to think and after an untold number of calculations, it came to a single conclusion. That if it was to wipe out the human race, then it had destroy Mother. Ziggy is firm on his stance that Shiki will save Mother, but Void taunts him for this.
Meanwhile, Mother tells Shiki that it is time and asks if he is going to save her or save his friends. Rebecca counters, pointing out that Shiki was a baby and that she made the decision for him. Though Shiki tells her that it okay. He asks Mother if she will really let him choose, which she confirms and reminds him what will happen from either option. She states the consequences cannot be changed, worrying Rebecca. Declaring that they can make their own future and not wanting anyone to kill his friends, Shiki asks Mother to disappear. Mother says that he had the choice to be a hero or a demon king and sees that he picked the latter as she begins to fading. Because of this, space starts to warp. Ziggy is confused while Void realizes Mother is disappearing, claiming it as his win.
