Bounties

Bounties are a feature of Diablo Immortal, Diablo III, and Diablo IV.

Diablo Immortal

Bounty Board

Bounties are posted on the Bounty Board in Westmarch, located in the Palace Courtyard. 8 bounties are given per day, and a player can have up to 4 active bounties at a time. Incomplete bounties carry over to the next day, with up to 3 days' worth of bounties being held. Completing 4 bounties in a single day gives a player a bonus. Bounty chests will sometimes grant the player Legendary items.[1]

Bounties could originally be done as part of a group, but were changed to be solo-only affairs.[2]

Bounties are by default provided in sets of 4, all taking place in the same zone. If a player replaces one bounty with another, a situation can develop where the bounties are spread over different zones.

As of the Precipice of Horror update, bounties can be combined into Hellslayer Bounties.

History

In the September 11, 2024 update, the prompt to search for a party was removed from the Bounty Board and replaced with a button to manually search for a party.

Diablo III

Bounties are a randomized objective system available in Adventure Mode of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls.[3] Upon starting an Adventure Mode session, five random bounties for each act are made available, for a total of 25. They are marked on the waypoint map by yellow exclamation marks, and always occur in different zones from each other.[4] Joining a new game session resets and re-randomizes the bounties in every act, regardless of which were completed or not in the previous session.

Bounties generally award gold and experience, in addition to any normal rewards of an event. Horadric Caches are rewarded for completing all five Bounties of an Act in one game session.[5] They contain a mix of random loot, Blood Shards, crafting recipes, and Legendary Items and crafting materials specifically limited to Caches for that Act. The Bountiful seal of the Altar of Rites doubles the number of Horadric Caches per completed Act once unlocked, a bonus that originally appeared as a perk for Season 15.

Types of Bounties

There are six distinct types of Bounties: Kill a Boss, Kill a Unique, complete an Event, Clear a Dungeon, Exploration and Bounty Grounds. Only one Bounty per zone can be offered in a single game session. In each Act, exactly one boss bounty is always offered (except for Act IV; see below), and at least one unique-killing bounty is as well; the rest is a random mix.

For non-exploration bounties, the objective location flashes on the in-zone map even from far away. When approached close enough, the target's exact location is highlighted (exact distance depends on the zone size). Each bounty is marked at a specific waypoint, but most can be accessed from another side by taking the waypoint to the next zone and going backwards, which can be helpful to reach some more quickly.[6] This trick never works with bosses, however - the exits from boss lairs do not function "in reverse" in Adventure Mode until the boss is defeated.

Kill a Boss

This is a standard fight with one of the bosses (not necessarily end bosses) of each Act. The waypoints of Adventure Mode are not very close to bosses other than Zoltun Kulle, so the player needs to get through at least one zone to reach them. In addition to the bosses from Campaign Mode, the Adventure-only Vidian can be selected as the bounty boss for Act II. Act IV sometimes does not have a boss bounty, and instead assigns either Hammermash or Sledge - unique Mallet Lords in the Hell Rift - as an additional kill bounty.

When a bounty boss is killed, in addition to normal loot, a Diabolic Hoard reward chest appears, which contains loot similar to a Radiant Chest but with an unusually large amount of gems and Rare Items. It is not required to clear any other bounties before completing a boss bounty and looting the Hoard. Hammermash and Sledge do not award this chest.

Kill a Unique

One Unique or Super-Unique monster in the Act is assigned to be killed. Other Uniques and Super-Uniques may still appear normally in the same zone. In addition to the primary target, a number of other enemies in the same zone must also be killed, the amount varying depending on the zone size (25 to 150). The only exceptions without secondary objectives are Uniques that spawn in very small zones, such as the Hell Rift.

Event

A specific Event must be completed. These include scripted events, Cursed Chests, and even unmarked events. The bounty reward is still earned even if bonus objectives are not completed.

Clear a Dungeon

The player must kill all enemies (except resurrected and summoned foes) in a specific single-level dungeon or in the bottom-most level of a multi-level dungeon. When 15 or less enemies remain, they are highlighted on the map. Only small dungeons with no more than 100 enemies can be selected for this type of bounty.

Exploration

Exploration bounties require either rescuing allies, eliminating enemies, or finding objects in multiple locations within the zone. The in-zone map points towards objectives from a medium-to-long distance away, but some exploration may still be required to find them all, since they do not flash on the map from an unlimited distance like other bounties do.

Bounty Grounds

Bounty Grounds are special zones entered through a red portal found in normal zones, marked like other objectives on the in-zone map. Inside, one of four events must be completed:

Patch changes

  • Patch 2.2.0 - Exploration bounties added, with 14 possible events.
  • Patch 2.4.0 - Bounty Grounds added, with four possible events in six possible zones.
  • Patch 2.5.0 - Bonus Act system removed, and Horadric Cache loot increased to compensate. Prior to this patch, one Act would be randomly chosen as a Bonus Act at the start of a game session, and would give two Caches upon completion (though the second bonus cache contained less loot). Each time a Bonus Act was completed, one of the remaining Acts would be chosen as the new Bonus Act.

Diablo IV

In Diablo IV, bounties are given out by the Tree of Whispers.[7]
