Demon Souls is an event in Act V of Diablo III. It takes place in Pandemonium Fortress Level 1, and a bounty may be offered to complete it.
Jamella and Halbu, the only two long-term mortal residents of the Fortress during the events of Diablo II, have been slain in Malthael's takeover, but they linger as ghosts. Jamella greets The Nephalem with her iconic "Hail to you, champion", and they warn of more Soul Crucibles being used by Malthael to fuel his power, but in this case with the souls of demons being executed within the Fortress.
The hero must destroy the crucibles, guarded by Winged Assassins and Anarchs, and then the Soul Scavenger channeling the souls to Malthael. Each objective is on a different isolated platform, but at each stage of the event, short-range Death Gate portals like those elsewhere in the Fortress appear as necessary. A brief thanks from Jamella completes the event, awarding gold and experience. The ghosts remain after it is done.
