The Welder is one of the items required to upgrade the Workbench to level 5.

As of Alpha 8.0, the Welder cannot be purchased, only found. Since the upgrades carry over to all other Workbenches, it's only necessary to obtain one of them; the other can be safely ignored.

Trivia

• Before Alpha 8.0, Welders used to be much more common. In Alpha 7.2, it was possible to find one in Piotrek's House, as well as purchasing one from Piotrek or Wolfman for 200 Reputation each.
• Before Alpha 7.2, The Three would also sell this item.
