The Embryo is an item found by breaking open Larvae Eggs. It is one of the few Hallucinogenic items that does not decay.

When eaten, it regenerates the Protagonist's health for a short duration and, on Hard difficulty, grants the player an extra life. Players can get more than the starting 4 lives at one time when eating Embryos, and the limit of lives is not yet known.

Cooking it at the Oven in the first Hideout gives 40 ml of Essence which is 4 times more than an Odd-Looking Mushroom. Thus it might be a good idea to save the Embryos until the Old Woods Hideout, where the Oven would let you extract the more Essence (640).

There are 7 Embryos in Darkwood:

1 in the link between Dry Meadow and Silent Forest;

1 in the Bug Nest of Silent Forest;

1 in the Bug Nest of Old Woods;

1 in the Bug Nest of Swamp;

3 which can be bought in the random encounters with the Doctor in the Swamp.
