The Blacksmith is a non-playable character who appears in Breath of Fire IV. He lives in Mount Glom, in a building that serves as both home and workshop to him. He forged the King's Sword to serve as a symbol of the truce between the Fou Empire and the Eastern Alliance. He can also craft armor for Ershin using materials that the party acquires throughout the course of the game.
Role in Breath of Fire IV

Ryu and the party originally meet with the smith in order to forge a new King's Sword since the original sword broke after the events in Sarai at the beginning of the game. The party intends to present the replica to Prince Morley of Ludia in order to free Cray, who is being held in custody, following the events at the Causeway.

For this process, he needs a Faerie Drop, which the party procures in the realm of the Fairies. Ryu and the others then head back to Wychwood to the place where they first found the fairies. They enter their home and slay Fantam and his offspring. For this heroic deed, the party receives a Faerie Drop as well as access to the Fairy colony minigame. They make their way back to the smith.
Upon presenting the fabled metal to him, the Smith reforges the sword with ease. Ryu and the party then return to Ludia to present the sword. After Cray's rescue and the escape to Wyndia, the party can return to the smith who now forges a variety of different armors for Ershin. The components for the process can be found as random drops from monsters.
