The hand (手札 tefuda) contains a player's unused SIGNI and spells. At the beginning of the game, each player draws 5 cards from their deck, putting those cards into their respective hands. At this point, players may choose, only once, to return cards from their hand to their deck, shuffle their deck, and draw the same number of cards they returned.
At the end of a player's turn, if that player has 7 or more cards in their hand, they must discard cards until they only have 6 cards remaining.
Draw
To draw (引く hiku) a card is to take a card from the top of your deck and put it into your hand. This action is typically done during the draw phase, but some card abilities allow a player to draw additional cards outside of the draw phase.
On the very first turn of the game, the player going first draws only 1 card from their deck during their draw phase. From then on, every turn both players draw 2 cards during their respective draw phases.
Discard
To discard (捨てる suteru) a card is to take that card from your hand and put it into your trash. Several abilities can cause a player to discard cards: Many blue cards cause the opponent to discard, and many cards require you to discard as part of the costs for their abilities. Cards can also be discarded during the end phase: if the turn player reaches the end phase with 7 or more cards in their hand, they discard cards until they only have 6 cards in their hand.
