The Sapeur is the French flamethrower infantry. In Wargame: European Escalation, it was NATO's only infantry flamethrower unit. In Wargame: AirLand Battle it is now 1 out 3 NATO available engineer units.
History
A Armored Division and the Infantry Division has a Engineer Regiment. The 12th and 14th Light Armored Division has only a engineer company while the 6th Light Armored Division has 6th Regiment Etrangere du Genie. While the Airmobile and Marine Division has a engineer company. The Airborne Division has 17th Regiment du Genie Parachutiste.
Strategy and Tactics
Put your anti-infantry behind your main line ATGM and multi-purpose infantry in a town. This way, they will be safe from tanks and other attacking vehicles, but if infantry comes to attack just move them up and let them attack.
Also, the same strategy can be used on the offensive, your flamethrower infantry stay behind the main attacking infantry, and when infantry units are found, bring them to the front.
