The Jaguar A is a SEAD Aircraft that is available to France. It was first introduced in Wargame: AirLand Battle, and is the only SEAD aircraft available for France.

History

The SEPECAT Jaguar is a twin-engine, single seat, supersonic multi-role combat aircraft developed for the United Kingdom and France in a joint venture between Breguet and BAC. Originally planned as a trainer and tactical support aircraft, the Jaguar first flew as a prototype in 1968, and France received their first operational Jaguar A in 1973. Its high-set intakes and reinforced landing gear allow the type to take off from unfinished or rough runways, and the type features over-wing pylons for AIM-9 or Magic missiles. The Jaguar would perform light strike, "pre-strategic" nuclear strike, and Suppression of Enemy Air Defense (SEAD) roles for the French Air Force, and the type saw extensive use from the 1970's through 1990's in Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Europe. These were replaced by Dassault Rafale in 2005.

Overview

AirLand Battle

The SEPECAT Jaguar A is a moderately-priced SEAD aircraft available to French and NATO decks. It carries twin DEFA 550 cannons and two AS-37 Martel AR anti-radar missiles. Its DEFA cannons allow the Jaguar to follow up attacks with the Martel if they should fail to kill their intended target, or to strafe ground targets, helicopters, and aircraft. The AS-37 is fairly accurate and has superb armor penetrating power. The major drawback of the Jaguar A is its bad ECM. Given the aircraft's role as a SEAD platform, this is a considerable tactical drawback, as the Jaguar will likely be engaged by the target it is prosecuting, and has little survivability if fired upon by a long range SAM or AAM.

Red Dragon

The SEPECAT Jaguar A in Wargame: Red Dragon is a moderately-priced SEAD aircraft available to French and BLUFOR decks. Its configuration is largely unchanged from AirLand Battle, but with a boost to its ECM, making the type more viable in its primary SEAD role. With 30% ECM, the Jaguar is not as survivable as an EF-111, F-4G, or Tornado ECR, but it is also less expensive than those airframes, and much more survivable than it had been in AirLand Battle.
