The 2e REP (2e Régiment Étranger de Parachutistes) is a French Recon Squad that only appeared in Wargame: European Escalation. The unit has a rearmed variant called 2e REP FAMAS.
History
The 2nd Foreign Legion Parachute Regiment or 2e REP, as its name suggests, is a part of French Foreign Legion. This is probably the resaon why the unit was removed from Wargame: AirLand Battle, as the unit is a detailed formation and a kind of duplicate.
Being one of the nine regiments of the French Foreign Legion, 2e REP was organized from a standard airborne infantry regiment into a rapid deployment paratroop commando regiment in 1960s. It is officially a part of the 11th Airborne Division and it's based at Camp Raffali, near Calvi in Corsica. Its selection standards are similar to those of the US Special Forces (aka. Green Berets). Majority or its enlisted men are foreign nationals while officers are mostly French citizens. Training for the unit is very similar to US Army Rangers and British SAS but some experts claim that regiment is somewhat inferior to SAS in terms of training and experience.[1]
2e REP was formed for and still limits itself to military functions rather than paramilitary or counter-terrorist missions: Stratetic strikes, combat rescues, counter-insurgency and reconniassance are its missions. It has proved to be quite able at counter-insurgency operations in Chad and Djibouti.
Troops chosen for the regiment are trained in their specific specializations in the companies they are assigned for. First company specializes in anti-armor, urban combat and night operations, Second Company for mountain and arctic warfare, Third Company for amphibious operations, Fourth Company in sabotage and demolitions. Advanced training in communications, demolition, medical and weapon specialities is provided to selected troops.
2e REP consists of a headquarters and services company, a recon and support company (composed of a recon platoon, a mortar platoon, two ATGM platoons, an MANPADS platoon and a pathfinder platoon), and four rifle companies. The total complement is believed to be about 1300 officers and enlisted men.
Overview
Notice that 2e REP is a 5-men squad and thus vulnerable to enemy fire. Their "Training-level" is inferior to Legion as the Accuracy and HE Power of MAT 49 are lower, but should be the same with Chasseurs.
