Proto (プロト)[1] is the developer name given to the arena of the 2nd colossus.
Description
The battle takes place on the beach just across the bridge north of the Shrine of Worship. The bridge supports and the colossus' huge stone door are the only man-made structures of note in this location. The colossus doesn't come close to the cliffs, so if you're in danger, you can run for cover. Incidentally, Wander will fall over in the waves, and you won't be able to move as you wish.
Location
The arena is located on the center of the Forbidden Lands, north of the Shrine of Worship, at quadrant F3.
Trivia
- The theme Sign of the Colossus plays when first finding the arena.
- The name 'Proto' comes from prototype, as this was the first arena created for the game, just like Mammoth / Boss A was the first created colossus.
- In the OPM Demo pause menu map, a canyon can be seen just north of the arena, it's unknown it this was an extension of the arena or something else entirely.
- In early footage, the cave that the 2nd colossus exits from appears to have led further north, possibly connecting to said canyon.[2]
- In the E3 Demo, the ending model of Proto has some strange small pillar-like ruins on the rocky ground at the north of the arena. They aren't present in the normal location.
- The ambient texture of Proto found in earlier versions of the game shows a version of F3 not available in any current public builds. It features massive rocks up north.
- A small piece of these rocks can be found in the ending model of Proto in the E3 Demo.
- There exists an early texture segment of quadrant F3 that was found in the PS3 Data Sheets. It had plenty of textures, many of them matching with those still in Proto, as well as the 2nd colossus' test stage - Stage 01. It more than likely is an earlier version of the arena, though it's unknown why it is named after the quadrant and not the arena.

Comparison with the normal model of Proto in the E3 Demo and its ending model. Even though the model is cut-off, one can notice that the rocks in the ending model were bigger.
