Soldier-One (axe)

The Soldier-One is an enemy that appears in Sonic and the Black Knight. They are a type of the Knights of the Underworld and a variant of the Soldier-One.^[1] They wield large battle axes which distinguish them from the other Soldier-One variants.

Appearance

The Soldier-Ones are humanoid beings. They are clad in gray full-body armor that resemble those used by medieval knights, with their helmet having a large rectangular plate on the face with a slim peephole. Their armor also have green medieval markings on their torso, arms and helmet. Behind their helmet, they have a single eye.

Overview

The Soldier-Ones are one of the most common enemies in Sonic and the Black Knight. They are first encountered in Deep Woods and can be encountered in nearly every area. However, they are not as plentiful as the sword-wielding Soldier-Ones and appear either alone with other types of enemies, or in a group of themselves of two-to-three at most.

The Soldier-Ones primary attack with their axes, either with a simple swipe or by spinning around like a top, giving them a wide attack range. The latter is hard to dodge up close and almost always inflicts damage on the player when attacking it head-on. When not using their axes, the Soldier-Ones charge into the player with their shoulder (their shields when they have them) which will knock the player backwards, but not damaging them.

Like most other Knights of the Underworld, the Soldier-Ones can be defeated with a single sword slash. However, in some cases, they are equipped with shields which can protect them from upcoming frontal attacks, though these shields will eventually break down when hit with enough attacks (the shields of wood are the weakest while those of metal are the strongest).

The Soldier-Ones are said to be crafty opponents.^[1]

Powers and abilities

The Soldier-Ones are able to teleport to different locations by emerging from black voids. They have capable axemanship skills, efficiently wielding axes in combat. They also have skills in shieldmanship, being able to use shields both defensively and offensively.

Weapons

The Soldier-Ones each wield a Cursed Axe which they use as their main offense to launch wide attacks. In some cases, the Soldier-Ones can also wield large shields, made from either wood or metal, which they use for both offense and defense.
