Day 1 was the official launch of the SMPEarth server. It took place on 22 November 2019. The day is followed by the events of Day 2. Day 1 marked the start of Week 1.
Within the first 30 minutes, after the server had launched, players began to spawn across all continents on the server. As they started to settle in their location of choice, they began creating a faction of their own and recruited others to join.
The following is the list of the factions formed on Day 1 (in increasing order based on in-game chat)
He also established the faction's capital called Creeper Amman. This refers to the famous line from his hit Minecraft song, Revenge, and also to honor the real-life capital city of Jordan, Amman.
Not only that, he named his underground resource mine as So We Back in the Mine, referring to the second line of the song.
He intended to create a faction inspired by the real life German Empire and went so far to demarcate the approximate border of his faction prior to the server launch.
He recruited King Burren and Krinios into his faction to help him claim the European lands.
Those two would soon go their own ways, much to Jawsh's chagrin.
Jawsh questioned Krinios' loyalty to the German Empire, but the latter clarified that he intended to form the faction as a German state by securing the volcano there.
SootCharlie conquered the Korean peninsula and established Kpop.
SenzuFrijole created the faction Nam while in Vietnam.
OGBeefStew reached the Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean and created Beefster Island.
Soon, one of the admins announced that the server had crashed due to immense amount of players that reached its maximum capacity. Hence, a faction reset was done. Some players managed to retain their created factions, while some had to start anew and recreate.
Again, Technoblade was the first to quickly reestablish the Antartic Empire
Wilbur followed suit and reestablished Newfoundland.
Arlus reestablished his faction with a new name, Transatlantic.
Dinkster reestablished Ukraine.
Junky reestablished his faction, now simply named Spain.
Sneegsnag reestablished his faction, now renamed marioloogi.
Jawsh recreated the German Empire, now with only Slimecicle in his faction.
He proclaimed in the game chat that "Greenland has been claimed, after swimming from parts unknown. Now we begin to build a home for the free, the brave, THE VOICE OVER PEEPS!!!!"
Later, Pete disbanded the faction to join the Antarctic Empire with Techno and Philza.
Jordan reestablished his faction Kingdom of Jordan.
Senzu reestablished his faction, now named Vietnam.
Burren reestablished his faction, now named BurrenEmpire
He later renamed it to Tofu.
InkTea created a new faction called TwitchPrime
The faction was later disbanded as Ink joined Spain.
Mason recreated his faction known as WelcomeToWyoming.
Michaelmcchill was the first people to purchase a plane, a special mode of transportation on SMPEarth.
AntVenom became the first person to step foot on all 7 continents of SMPEarth.
Chip applauded his effort despite the massive size of the map and the current condition of the transportation.
Technical Issues
Faction Power
Jawsh asked Chip when do faction power regenerate. Chip replied that each factions will receive 5 points for every minute they spent on the server.
Jawsh then pointed out that he had 50/50 but the game still assumed he didn't have enough power to claim all the lands he planned out for the German Empire.
Michael and Fit also shared the same concern.
Chip replied that Jawsh might have to recruit more people in order to increase his faction power. He added that he could make it infinite "as long as [people] don't claim the entire world".
Jamak then requested the admin to grant them unlimited power.
Jawsh also agreed with Jamak's point, as he believed people on the server has integrity and can be trusted with such immense power.
Michael expressed his goal to claim the northern Californian region.
Fit also said that he "would appreciated at least a raise of the power cap" since he was unable to claim all of Florida.
Chip stated that he was making it so that players are unable to claim huge areas all to themselves and to avoid, for example, a single player claiming all of russia. **Dinkraine asked why not, to which Chip answered that it would be "mad unbalanced[sic]" in their opinion.
LukeOrSomething suggested to make coal as the currency for the number of chunks a faction could possess.
Fit presented his case that 50 points of power was insufficient to claim the entirety of florida.
Jamak questioned on the restriction of a single person owning a large area, since SMPEarth is essentially a faction server and a situation like that is expected or bound to happen. Chip did not provide an answer to that matter.
In the end, Chip fixed the issue by setting a limit of 500 chunks that can be claimed by a faction.
They had to compromise this fix with several technical stuff which means that death on the server would immensely reduce the faction power. Thus, players were ought to "be careful".
Mob Spawns
Several players started to notice that the hostile mobs were notoriously violent, especially at night. It is as if they were playing hardcore mode with amplified amount of mob spawning.
Philza and Techno each discovered an abundance of zombie pigmen in the Icelandic and African volcanoes respectively.
Cave mobs were often found concentrated in caves, making mining expeditions to become a suicide mission.
Later, during his worldwide expedition, AntVenom asked the server regarding the absence of nether mobs spawning in volcanoes, since volcanoes were designated as nether biomes.
He was disappointed to not see any blazes, ghasts or even zombie pigmen there.
Chip answered that mob spawn was temporarily disabled to reduce lags on the server.
Home Spawn Commands
For a moment, the command /f sethome and /f home was enabled to allow players to set and teleport to their home base respectively.
Later, the admins changed it to /f setspawn and /f spawn.
Planes Problems
Throughout the first day, many players were bewildered with the planes and how they function on the server.
Luemas was surprised that people already got their hands on planes just one hour into the game, as he stated it should be prehistoric times where people just punched trees with their bare hands and explored the world by foot.
Due to the immense amount of players online at the time, flying the plane over unloaded chunks became a fatal hazard. Michaelmcchill and CaptainSparklez had died several times due to suffocation.
Despite the warning in the custom GUI, many did not realize that attempting a circumnavigation via plane would break the plane and render it impossible to be used.
Relogging while on mid-air would also cause the plane to break and player would not only lose the plane, but also fall straight to the ground.
Some complained that the planes were too cheap and may become too OP in the future. So Chip decided to raise the price a bit. However, soon others started to lament they did not have the chance to purchase them while they were still cheap.
In one instance, Technoblade asked people on the server how much power one would lose upon death, but the question was left unanswered.
JoshA20 himself did not even know the answer and directed him to Chip who had configured the plugin.
Fit and Techno conducted their own experiment to determine the answer. Fit himself proclaimed in game chat: I SACRIFICE MYSELF TO THE BLOOD GOD IN THE NAME OF SCIENCE.
As a result, they found that one death costs the loss of 100 power points from a faction, and the two factions formed an alliance out of this experiment.
While in Africa, he stripped the volcano there of its mineral resources and made his way westward to Australia, and then to Antarctica.
Ph1lzA met him in the south pole and together, they slew Jamakattack who had been following Technoblade from Africa. Jmak revealed that he only wanted to "deliver him steak".
Techno then claimed the entirety of the stronghold, the Southern End Portal within it, and the Katla volcano in Iceland.
Spifey tried to attack the members of the Antarctic Empire but was viciously killed instead, despite having a plane.
Michaelmcchill managed to claim all of northern California.
Dinkster announced that he now owns Crimea for his faction, Ukraine.
Slimecicle logged on to the server and became a member of the German Empire
For a brief moment, Jawsh gave the leadership to Slimecicle, perhaps accidentally.
They later swapped the roles and Jawsh was reinstated as the leader of the faction.
Sp00n managed to gather all food resources in his all natural state and proceeded to monopolize the food economy on the server.
Coincidentally, several minutes prior, Weest announced that his faction has ran out of food after 4 hours on the server.
After Toxxxicsupport (Angel) and Reflex visited Sneegsnag with a plane, they jokingly said that they have done everything they wanted so far on the server.
Reflex logged out for the server momentarily for the bit, but little did he know, he had doomed her to death as the plane they were on had also disappeared upon his departure.
Angel later respawned in her Canadian base while Reflex returned to the server (after mistakenly logged on to SMPLive briefly) and gathered her items at the site of her death.
ItsAsaii streamed for 19 hours straight on the server.
