Chapter 237

Vitera (Korean: 비테라, RR: Bitera) is the virtual reality dungeon recreation of one of the leading members of the Achates City rebels. Aided by Han Yoojin, she overthrows the Achates Defense Agency and establishes a new order with better treatment of combat-oriented Guards.

Appearance

Vitera has short white hair. She appears to be in her early 20s.^[1]

Personality

Vitera is a straightforward woman with strong ideals, with an empathetic heart easily won by people showing kindness and concern for others.^[1]

History

In the original Guardverse, Vitera was born in Achates City. When Vitera's elder sister was taken away by the Achates Defense Agency as a potential high-rank Awakener, their parents got Gnosi's help to smuggle Vitera away to Lancea City. She grew up and Awakened in Lancea. Eventually, she returned to Achates to further fight for the rebel cause, gaining a grudge against Defense Agency S-ranks Iriko and Kubils in particular.^[1] As one of the strongest members of the rebels, she had a bounty on her head that was likely above 20 million L.^[2] It is implied that she and the rebels may have failed in their uprising due to the lack of strength on their side.^[3]

It is unknown whether the original version of Vitera fell in the fight against the Achates Defense Agency or at another time; at the very latest, she would've perished along with the rest of the world when the Guardverse fell to its source, the Deepest Spring.

Synopsis

In the virtual reality dungeon, Vitera is called by Gnosi to meet Han Yoojin, who offers to help with their uprising in exchange for Alpha (currently the host body of Han Yoohyun). She provides context for the rebels' motivation and hears out Yoojin's plan, agreeing to work with him.^[1]

As per Yoojin's plan, Vitera helps create a Doppelgänger Doll of herself, then baits Iriko and Kubils into coming out of the Agency to the location where one of Newcomer's discs is to be installed. Vitera is astonished by the summoning of multiple SS-rank monsters to take down the S-ranks, but continues to track the situation at the Defense Agency.^[1] When Yoojin meets her and the other rebels at the Defense Agency, Vitera expresses her admiration for his handiwork. They then head down to the Achates Mana Hole via the elevator, which Vitera uses for the first time, being more used to using the rebels' tunnels. She and Yoojin take out the guards manning the doors leading to the Mana Hole. Vitera leaves Yoojin, Gnosi, and two other A-ranks to find Alpha; meanwhile, she and the remaining team members head towards the Mana Hole where she can sense her elder sister.^[4]

Vitera wins her fight against her sister, severely injuring her. Once Yoojin and Yoohyun-as-Alpha return to the Defense Agency, she updates Yoojin on the situation as per normal, unaware of Gnosi's intentions to kill him.^[3] She then works on reorganizing the Defense Agency; at some point by the next morning, Moon Hyuna (in the body of Lambda) provides her with an in-universe explanation for the relationship between Han Yoojin and "Alpha".^[5]

The evening after the successful coup, the Achates Mana Hole begins spawning a flood of monsters in response to Sigma's newly realized existence; Vitera, along with the other S-ranks, fights off the monsters and helps protect the technicians repairing the inter-city communication equipment. The battle lasts through to the next day.^[6]

Four days later, with Yoojin and his party having left, Vitera joins Gnosi while rebuilding efforts are underway at the Defense Agency. She confirms for him that "Alpha" and Yoojin's relationship seemed genuine, with no signs of brainwashing. Vitera tries to assure him that the rebels' efforts did help in freeing Alpha. When Peace, following Yoojin's trail, attacks Gnosi, Vitera helps him up and treats his wounds with a potion, though they aren't fully healed. She urges Gnosi to go to the healers, but he refuses, redirecting her attention onto the rebuilding.^[7]

Gnosi

Vitera looks up to Gnosi, having received a great deal of support from him throughout her youth. It is unclear whether she is aware of Gnosi's connection to Alpha.^[1]

Han Yoojin

Vitera admires Yoojin, being surprised and pleased by his unexpected efficacy in attacking the Achates Defense Agency despite only having been present in the city for a few days. Though initially suspicious of his breezy confidence, she was swayed by his obvious concern and genuine horror at the treatment of Guards in Achates.^[1][4]
