Titi

Titi (ティティ?) is one of the main protagonists of the Centuria manga.

A survivor of the Western War, she was taken in by the knight Angvall and later became a housemate of Julian and Diana after they were also rescued. Following the death of her guardian, Titi remained with Julian to assist in raising Diana and to protect her from the assassins dispatched by Elstri to prevent a potential prophecy.

Appearance

Titi is a young woman with long black hair and red eyes. At the beginning of the series, her hair was curled but had gradually begun to loosen to flow more freely as the story progressed. Notably, she has red facial markings beneath her eyes.

She wears a simple, sleeveless tunic-like dress that is belted at the waist by a metal garment with dark fur. She sports a bangled necklace and bracelets as accessories, seemingly of the same material as her belt, and has bandages wrapped around her legs. Following her departure from the village, Titi replaced the metal piece of her belt with the metal neckline of Angvall's armor.

Five years after settling in the western border, Titi has become slightly taller and has grown out her hair to back-length, with bangs covering the left side of her face. She dons a hairband, a blouse with a large collar, and a belt paired with a long, dark skirt.

History

Titi lived with her parents at a town in the country at the western border. During the Western War, Titi's home was attacked by enemy forces. Her parents attempted to flee but were promptly killed. Titi survived and was later found by Angvall and her regiment.[1] As Titi was the sole survivor of her family, she received an apology from Angvall, who felt that she and her comrades were responsible for her loss by being powerless during the conflict. From then on, Titi came to be under Angvall's care after the woman offered to help her in any way she can.[2]

After the battle, Titi accompanied Angvall when she was brought before the Supreme Lord to be appointed to his King's Guard. Angvall declined the promotion to request raising Titi instead. The Supreme Lord granted her request, telling her to care for Titi in a district in the southern lands.[3]

New Beginnings Arc

Julian meets Titi and Angvall

At the shore, Titi and Angvall find Julian badly injured as he holds his adoptive sister Diana and offers to help them at their house. After treating his wounds and giving him a change of clothes, Titi and Angvall have dinner with Julian and give their names before they head to bed.[4]

Half a year later, Julian and Diana continued to live with Titi and Angvall. After Julian felt that it was time to find a job, Angvall and Titi accompany him to the nearby village to look for work. After Julian agreed to clear a mining cave filled with rubble as a test to see whether he is useful, Titi felt concern watching him struggle to carry the remaining pile. Later, after Julian is hired from completing his task, Titi and Angvall are called to the room by him as Diana begins to crawl, much to their amazement. Titi then felt the need to tease Julian, telling Diana that she is better at crawling than he is during his trial, much to the young man's slight annoyance.[5]

Forest Arc

Titi goes with Angvall to bring over Julian and Joseph their lunch as they work outside.[6]

The next day, Titi is ordered by Angvall to walk back to the house with Julian and Diana while she and the other villagers go out to search for Joseph after he was abducted in the forest. As they walk back, Titi worries to Julian if Angvall will make it back. This prompts Julian to rush back and join the search party despite Angvall's forbidding him, but not before giving Diana to Titi and telling her everything will be okay.[7]

Titi hugs Julian and Angvall

After Julian, Angvall, Joseph, and his father returned to the village, Titi rushed to Angvall's side after she collapses from the wounds she received from the Demonic Beast and allows Ravenna, the village doctor, to treat her. After taking Angvall back to the house to rest as Ravenna instructed, Titi sits at her bedside with Julian and lets him know how she came to be taken care of by Angvall. Though she thanks Julian for saving Angvall, Titi hears him contemplating on leaving them to ensure that they aren't involved with the monsters coming after him. She then becomes relieved to see Angvall awake after she had overheard their conversation, which leads to her berating Julian for coming up with such a solution. Agreeing with Angvall that Julian is family to them, Titi tells Julian that they should stick together in the face of problems and pulls him and Angvall in for a group hug, though this causes their body to ache from her squeezing them too hard.[8]

Beginning of the End Arc

The New House

After Julian informs Titi and Angvall of his plans to relocate to the seaside as a precaution against the monsters of the forest, Titi becomes enthusiastic about the idea of everyone in the house moving elsewhere. However, her disappointment sets in when Julian makes it clear that he intends to move only with Diana, prompting Titi to seek Angvall's support in the hope of maintaining their living arrangement together, which leads to Julian complying with her demand. As Julian heads to the village to inform Joseph's family of their move, Titi waves to him goodbye and suggests to Angvall to do the same, explaining that the meaning of the gesture is that someone is wishing someone else a safe trip. Titi then welcomes Julian back home and smiles as Julian becomes reassured by Angvall about the Supreme Lord's benevolence.[9]

Later, Titi heads to the shore with Julian to fish. Despite her skepticism about Julian's ability to catch fish with only a net, she becomes astonished to see a large haul of fish being drawn and caught by Julian for some mysterious reason. The two then meet up with the carpenter Joseph's father hired to help Julian construct the new house. Once the construction of the house is complete, with the villagers' assistance, Titi, Angvall, Julian, and Diana get ready to move in.[10]

Diana excited for the party

Upon seeing Diana stand up for the first time, Titi swiftly seeks out Angvall to bear witness.[11] After discovering that Julian is unaware of his birthday, Titi suggests celebrating it on the same day as Diana's—a proposal that both he and Angvall accept. She then heads out to the seashore with Julian and Diana to catch fish for the celebration. While there, she takes in the beauty of the sunrise notices clouds forming in the distance, thinking that it might rain today.[12]

Beginning of the End Arc

After finish setting up the table for the party, Titi is met by Joseph who came to warn her about the situation between Julian and Angvall at the village. Upon arriving, Titi, along with the villagers, are forced by the knight Guillaume to stay behind the drawn line on the ground to prevent anyone from interfering in Angvall's attempts to get pass Julian and kill Diana, being warned that crossing it will result in them being deemed a traitor of the country and a death sentence. Titi witnesses in a horror as Angvall harms Julian and cries out to her to stop.[13] Following Joseph and Marie stepping in to protect Julian and Diana, Titi, along with the other villagers, become prompted to do the same. Titi then comes up to Angvall to lower her sword and persuade her to not commit to her orders.[14]

After Angvall decides to switch sides by attacking the oncoming soldiers ordered by Elstri to assault the villagers, she instructs Titi to escape with Julian and Diana while she remains to defend the villagers. Titi, embracing Angvall, reluctantly agrees to separate but takes comfort in Angvall's promise to reunite with them later in a new place where they can live peacefully. Having cleared a path, Titi flees with Julian and Diana towards the eastern grasslands, Angvall's designated rendezvous point. During their escape, they encounter Guillaume, but are helped by Joseph's father intervenes after he shoots an arrow into the soldier's arm to stop him from using his morning star.[15] After Titi becomes too exhausted to continue fleeing from the pursuing knights, Julian hands her Diana and throws them into the air to quickly defeat the knights, much to Titi's shock while up in the sky. By the time she is caught in his arms, Titi feels compelled to ask Julian to warn her before he decides to perform such a stunt again.[16]

Later, Titi, Julian, and Diana notice Angvall injured after she is sent flying back by Arkos.[17] The three then witness Angvall killed by Arkos, evoking Julian's fury just as the man had planned in order to fight him at his full potential. As Julian confronts Arkos, Titi approaches Angvall's dead body and starts to hyperventilate, overwhelmed by distress.[18]

Julian, Titi, and Diana mourn Angvall's death

After Julian returns from killing Arkos, Titi becomes unable to accept the truth, believing that Angvall is simply sleeping and not dead. In a state of despair, Titi pleads with Angvall to awaken, while Diana, echoing Titi's insistent pleas, gently murmurs Angvall's name. With the arrival of dawn, Julian and Titi give in to their sorrow, crying together for the loss of their beloved guardian.[19]

As preparations for Angvall's funeral are underway, Titi sits alone, engulfed in mourning. Julian then approaches her, offering comfort by guiding her indoors for some rest. Inside, they stumble upon the festive birthday banquet that Titi. As the funeral draws to a close, Titi requests a moment to snip a lock of Angvall's hair to keep as a memento.[20]

Julian informs Titi of his intention to depart the village with Diana and inquiries about her plans following their departure. Before she can respond, Julian advises Titi against accompanying them, warning that she may become a target for those pursuing Diana, and expresses hope that she can find happiness independently. Titi reassures Julian that he bears no responsibility for everything that had happened, believing that Angvall's smile in her final moments signified no blame towards him. Nevertheless, Julian tilts his head, feeling guilty and regretting his acquaintance with both her and Angvall. Titi resolutely declares her intention to travel with him regardless and is determined to gain the strength necessary to fight off any threats. In addition to questioning Julian's capability to care for Diana alone, Titi articulates her concerns differently, pleading with him not to abandon her. Julian then responds by stating that her request is unjust to him.[21]

The villagers express their goodbyes to Julian, Titi, and Diana as they prepared to depart. Prior to their departure, Joseph pledged to look after their home and the graves, while his father promised to keep their memories alive. Marie embraces them, encouraging Julian, Titi, and Diana to remain united. After departing, Titi becomes shocked to learn of Julian's plan to have them journey towards the western border to cross into the adjacent country.[22]

Interlude

At some point, Julian, Titi, and Diana chose to settle in the ruins of a castle on the western border, as their plans to relocate to the neighboring country had been met with difficulty due to the area serving as a warzone.

Western Border Arc

At home, Titi requests for Diana to fetch some water outside.[23] Upon Julian's return with his new friend Lukas, Titi and Diana welcome him home and are introduced to Lukas. Hearing Lukas mistaking her for Julian's wife, Titi happily reacts to this assumption and becomes prompted to strike Julian in the stomach to stop him from denying this, much to his confusion. After having Lukas join them for dinner, the young man openly expresses his enjoyment of the meal to Julian, Diana, and Titi, shedding tears of joy over finally having decent food. The mood then dampers for them when Lukas recounts his challenging history as a mercenary in the corp.[24]

At night, Titi and Julian step outside to find Julian coming under attack by Lacrima, much to Titi's confusion regarding the situation. Titi then becomes shocked by Lacrima revealing herself to be the sister of Arkos.[25] In the midst of the battle, Titi, Diana, and Lukas witness Lacrima absorbing the water from the aqueduct to grow to be a giant. Titi becomes annoyed to see the aqueduct dried out by Lacrima's action and worries for Julian as Lacrima has him drown and crushed by the water pressure inside her liquid body.[26]

Following Julian's victory over Lacrima after he releases himself from her water body with an ink explosion and claims her heart to have her pass out from the pain of him gripping it, the four have her unconscious body rest in one of their beds. Upon her awakening, Titi invites Lacrima to eat with them for breakfast and expresses her hopes that the food is to her liking. Titi then finds amusement in Lacrima's discomfort regarding Diana's curiosity about her power. Shortly after, Titi and Diana bid farewell to Lacrima as she takes her leave, with Titi telling Lacrima that she is welcome to come back for a meal. When Lukas inquiries about their friendly behavior towards their enemy, Titi shares her thoughts on Lacrima, asserting that she is not a bad person, as she genuinely wished to keep them out of her conflict with Julian. Titi further notes that Lacrima was seen crying in her sleep.[27]

The next day, Titi, Julian, Diana, and Lukas are visited by Lacrima who announces her intent to continue seeking revenge. Titi, Julian, and Lukas inform Lacrima of their situation of needing to fix the aqueduct the princess broke. This prompts Lacrima to give them water from her body using her power, much to Titi and Diana's disgust and refusal to drink water sourced from a person. After Lacrima agrees to lend her help, Titi leads her to a nearby lake to transfer the water over to their home. Lacrima attempts to put her powers to use by absorbing the water and transferring it over to the aqueduct. However, with her body enlarging as a result, Titi dismisses her idea due to it putting them at risk of being found out while they are out in the open. Titi then becomes dumbfounded by Lacrima creating water clones as a solution, only for Titi to point out that this makes her stand out even more. Later, she brings lunch for everyone and sits down to eat with Lacrima. As they enjoy their meal, Lacrima compliments Titi's cooking. Curious, Titi asks Lacrima if she is used to eating better food due to her high status, to which admits that she never really enjoyed the palace food. Lacrima then asks Titi who taught her how to cook. After a moment of silence, Titi reveals that Angvall, a woman who was a significant part of their family, taught her. When Lacrima asks where Angvall is now, Titi solemnly shows a piece of Angvall's hair she kept and discloses that her brother Arkos killed her, much to Lacrima's shock and guilt for what her family has done to her's.[28][29] Despite being related to him, Titi reassures Lacrima that she holds no animosity towards her for her brother's actions and shares with her how she and Julian had informed Diana about her status as the Child of Prophecy to ensure she remained vigilant during their travels. Titi then expresses her wish for Lacrima to continue being her and Diana's friend.[30]

During the night, Titi catches Lacrima making a move on Julian and rushes in to tackle her off of him. Lacrima becomes caught off guard by Titi's unexpected presence and assumes that there is a romantic involvement between her and Julian. Titi denies this claim but expresses her unwillingness to allow Lacrima to pursue him. This then leads to the two women tugging Julian by his arms, much to his dismay as he asks for Lukas and Diana to help him. Inside, Titi, Julian, and Lukas are informed by Lacrima that she had managed to track them down through the powers of a gifted one who can trace connections, one of the select few of gifted ones Elstri has gathered. She then recommends that they eventually consider moving to a different location. Titi playfully jests with Lacrima regarding her suggestion, claiming that she is concerned for their safety, prompting Lacrima to clarify that her primary worry is the possibility of others seizing her target. Acknowledging that making a sea journey to cross the border is not feasible, Lukas suggests that he reach out to the Margrave, the governor of the western border and a friend of his, who might be able to assist them in their passage.[31]

Titi extends an invitation to Julian and Lukas to join her, Diana, and Lacrima for a shopping trip at Ciella. When Julian recognizes Lacrima's return, the princess expresses her lack of better options and confesses that her absence would go unnoticed at the palace. This revelation leads Titi, Julian, and Lukas to comment on the unfortunate nature of her situation, deepening Lacrima's sadness, which Titi attempts to alleviate. During the shopping trip in Ciella, Julian unexpectedly reunites with his mother, who has fallen into slavery, and decides to purchase her, leaving Titi astonished. Back at home, Titi, Diana, Lukas, and Lacrima watch from afar as Julian shares a private moment with his mother. Concerned that Diana should not witness this, Lacrima offers to playfully carry her away, much to Titi's appreciation for preserving the girl's innocence. Titi grows worried for Julian when he begins to emit ink smoke from his blessing and prepares to intervene as he raises his fist in anger to strike at his mother. However, Lukas stops her, explaining that Julian has the right to act, given that his mother committed the unforgivable act of selling him and is now his property.[32] After Julian misses the opportunity for revenge when his mother succumbs to her illness, Titi comforts him, believing that he is too compassionate to harm her and that he allowed her to find peace by holding her hand in her final moments. She then proceeds to embrace him after he becomes surprised at himself for attempting to use "everyone's" power to end her life. Later, Titi becomes happy to notice Lacrima and Diana bonding after the latter affectionately nicknames the princess "Miss Lacy". After Julian smiles and laughs at Lacrima, Titi, and Lukas conversing with each other, Titi and Lacrima become charmed by his expression, with Titi choosing not to comment on Lacrima's remark about how "unfair" Julian's smile is.[33]

When Lukas informs them that the Margrave will meet with them in three days after his battlefield duties, Diana reacts with excitement as this corresponds with her upcoming birthday. Julian, taking note, decides to plan a meeting with the Margrave the next day to mark Diana's special day. While out shopping for the celebration, Titi praises Lacrima for generously purchasing food for them for the occasion, much to the princess's pleasure to hear. Titi then reveals that Julian shares the same birthday as Diana, a detail that surprises Lacrima as starts to feel bad that she didn't get him a present. Julian reassures her that a gift was unnecessary, with Titi further explaining that Julian places little importance on material possessions.[34] In the midst of the celebration, Lukas informs his companions of Elstri's party's arrival. In response, Titi and Diana are escorted by Lacrima to safety at the escape route while Julian handles fighting off the band of gifted assassins. While on the move, Titi notices Lukas' sudden disappearance during the escape, much to Lacrima's displeasure by this sudden occurrence at this time. When their path is blocked by Elstri and her gifted assassins, Titi holds Diana close to her as Lacrima fiercely debates Elstri's intent to harm the innocent child.[35] Titi urges Lacrima to flee after she vows to protect them, telling her that she and Julian do not wish to burden outsiders with their situation. Lacrima expresses her frustration with her insistence, telling Titi that she is one of them after they shared a meal together. The girls are then met with shock and confusion upon witnessing Lukas suddenly arriving to kill one of the gifted assassins.[36]

While Lukas battles the sword-wielding gifted assassin, Titi and Diana are safeguarded by Lacrima, who is engaged in battle against an earth manipulation gifted assassin. Titi voices her worries for Lacrima after she notices her friend's body shrinking from her water reserves depleting during the fight. Despite this, Lacrima remains determined to protect Titi and Diana, aiming to defeat her opponent before her strength fails. The fight then ends with Lacrima sacrificing herself to protect Titi and Diana by leaping in front of the gifted assassin's pillar attack towards them, much to Titi and Diana's horror to witness. As the gifted assassin approaches them, Lacrima suddenly reappears behind him and stabs him with her water blade. As Lacrima discloses to the gifted assassin the method she used to feign her death during their battle, Titi and Diana rush to Lacrima in relief that she is alive.[37]

Titi, Diana, and Lacrima regroup with Lukas, with him also victorious in his fight against his opponent.[38]
