Diana

Diana (ディアナ?) is the daughter of Mira and the adoptive sister of Julian.

Diana serves as one of the main protagonists of Centuria. According to the prophecy made by the Supreme Lord's seer, Elstri, Diana harbors an ancient and destructive soul within her and is fated to become a calamity to the entire world; the one who will end the Supreme Lord's life, bring night upon the land, and engulf everything in flames.

Appearance

Diana bears a striking resemblance to her mother Mira with short black hair and green eyes. She wears simple clothes with a cloak pinned together by a jewel, which is a similar garment worn by Mira. As a baby, she wore simple baby clothes.

According to Elstri's vision of the World Engulfed in Flames, Diana will mature to be a slim young woman with long hair while clad in black; wearing a form fitting armor with a long skirt, a long sleeve shirt underneath, and will have a black feather cloak draped over her that is held in place with the same jewel pin as her cloak. She can also be shown holding onto Mira's dagger.

Personality

Diana excited

Diana is a happy, friendly, and cheerful child, a disposition she has had since infancy, whether she was with her family or watching various events unfold. She is fascinated by the supernatural powers of gifts, such as Lacrima's ability to grow giant by absorbing water or create water clones. Diana also displays a level of maturity beyond her years. Unlike her older brother, she was socially aware of Titi being flattered by Lukas' assumption that she was Julian's wife. This prompted Diana to tell Julian to "read the room" when he questioned why Titi punched him in the stomach as he was about to correct Lukas. Despite being fascinated by Lacrima's gift, Diana found it gross by her offer to drink water sourced from her body.

Mira

Mira holding Diana

Mira was Diana's mother who deeply loved and cared for her baby while pregnant. She greatly hoped that Diana would live a happy life by the time she was born, even stating to Julian that she would be willing to sacrifice her own happiness to fulfill this. After deciding to be the octopus-being's sacrifice, Mira cut open her stomach to deliver Diana and tearfully held her for the first and last time before entrusting her protection to Julian.

Julian

Julian is Diana's guardian, as well as her adoptive brother as recognized by her mother Mira. Julian was entrusted to raise Diana after Mira chose to sacrifice herself to the octopus-being. He vows to honor Mira's wishes to give Diana a happy life by giving her everything he never had and to never leave her side.

Titi

Titi is also Diana's guardian and an older sister figure for her. Like Julian, Titi wants to give Diana a happy life. Diana's been raised by Titi since she was a baby. Diana is also aware of the romantic feelings Titi has for Julian, scolding her brother for not "reading the room" when he questioned why Titi punched him in the stomach.

Synopsis

New Beginnings Arc

Mira giving Diana to Julian

Diana is brought into the world by her mother, Mira, who forcibly opens her own pregnant belly as she readies herself to sacrifice her life to an Sea, with the creature promising to aid either her or Julian in their defense against the slave transporters who are determined to end their lives. Mira then handed over Diana to Julian before going through with the Sea's demands. After Julian kills the slave transporters onboard, he sails off with Diana on a boat given to him by the Sea. As Julian holds her, a crack-like marking forms on Diana's arm as she holds onto his thumb.[1] Diana cries in Julian's arms as their boat reaches a shipwreck and is temporary left alone on the boat as Julian tries stopping a giant eel sea demon from eating them. She continues to cry as her life becomes in danger by the other sea demons attempting to destroy the boat from beneath but is soon calmed down after she is back together with Julian.[2]

After reaching land, Diana and Julian are given food and shelter by Angvall and Titi. During the night, Diana makes it hard for Julian to focus on sleep as she cries and is taken outside for fresh air. She eventually falls asleep as Julian talks to Angvall about wanting to give Diana a happy life.[3]

After half a year passed, Julian continued to stay with Angvall and Titi as he took care of Diana. At some point, Diana notices a goat in the woods gazing at her and Julian and tries to warn him. Not seeing anything, Julian proceeds to walk back to the house.[4] Later, Diana is held by Angvall as Julian clears a mining cave as a trial to see whether he is acceptable to work for the villagers. After the trial, Julian, Angvall, and Titi watch in amazement seeing Diana learning how to crawl.[5]

Forest Arc

Diana is looked after by Marie as Julian works with her husband Joseph in chopping down firewood for the village. Later at night, Diana reaches out to the woods and is told by Julian that there is nothing out there and prepares to take her back inside, though the young man looks back with doubt.[6]

After Joseph's abduction in the forest, Julian entrusts Diana to Titi's care before departing to rendezvous with Angvall and Joseph's father, who are already scouring the area for him.[7]

Later, Diana, along with Julian and Titi, remains by Angvall's side as she recovers from the injuries inflicted by the Demonic Beast.

Beginning of the End Arc

Diana is held by Julian as he informs Angvall and Titi of his plans to relocate with Diana to the seashore as a precaution against the forest monsters. After Angvall and Titi insist that they continue living together at the new house, Diana is looked after by Titi while Julian goes over to the village to inform Joseph's family of their plans. Later, Diana is held by Julian, Angvall, and Titi as they work together with the villagers to build their new house. Upon the house's completion, Julian holds Diana while conversing with the carpenter and meets up with Angvall and Titi at their new residence, all the while contemplating the upcoming celebration of Diana's birthday.[8]

Elstri deeming Diana the king's enemy

Later, Diana is watched by Julian and Titi as she takes her first steps, which prompts Titi to call Angvall over from the next room to come and witness the moment.[9] Upon discovering that Julian is unaware of his birthday, Titi suggests celebrating it on the same day as Diana's. Titi then brings Diana along to the seaside where she and Julian go out to catch some fish for the occasion. Later, Julian brings Diana to meet up with Angvall for the forest investigation conducted by the Supreme Lord's prophetess Elstri. Upon entering the room, Julian and Diana are met with a terrified gaze from Elstiri, as the prophetess discerns that Diana is linked to the prophecy foretelling the Supreme Lord's downfall and her role as the harbinger of worldwide darkness. Believing it prudent to have her killed before the prophecy is fulfilled, Elstri orders Angvall to carry out the deed, causing both her and Julain great dismay at being placed in such a predicament.[10]

As Angvall decides to compel herself to obey Elstri's commands, Julian positions Diana protectively behind him, shielding her from Angvall's attempts to approach her. Diana is then held by Julian as he begs for mercy, proposing that he and Diana leave the country and never return.[11] After Angvall ultimately turns traitor against Elstri and her forces, Diana is taken away from village by Julian as he flees with Titi.[12] In the midst of their retreat, Diana and Titi are thrown in the air by Julian as he fights off the soldiers in pursuit of them, much to Diana's excitement.[13]

Diana's first word

Later, Diana, Julian, and Titi observe Angvall wounded after she is propelled backward by Arkos amidst their battle. They then behold Angvall's demise at Arkos' hands, which incites Julian's wrath — a reaction precisely orchestrated by Arkos to engage Julian at his peak strength.[14] While Julian engages Arkos, Diana notices Titi hyperventilating as she approaches Angvall's lifeless body.[15] Following Julian's return after slaying Arkos, Titi refuses to accept Angvall's death, insisting she is merely asleep. Desperate, Titi begs Angvall to wake up. In turn, Diana speaks Angvall's name, mirroring the pleas Titi has been repeating. As dawn breaks, Diana watches Julian and Titi weeping together, mourning their caretaker's passing.[16]

Diana becomes present at Angvall's funeral as Julian holds her in his arms.[17] After the funeral, Julian holds Diana as he talks to Titi about departing with her elsewhere to avoid having her targeted by others. Later, she is held by Titi as she and Julian say their goodbyes to the villagers as they prepare to depart and settle in the western country.[18]

Interlude

At some point, Julian, Titi, and Diana settled in the western border for the past five years due to the difficulties of making it crossing it. As she was being protected by Julian from Elstri's assassins, Diana came to learn of her situation concerning the Supreme Lord's prophecy.

Post-Timeskip

Western Border Arc

As she prepares to fetch some water asked for by Titi, Diana notices Julian arriving home and runs up to welcome her brother home.[19][20] She and Titi are then introduced to Lukas, a mercenary who Julian befriended on the streets. Noticing Julian confused by Titi suddenly punching him in the stomach after he almost denies Lukas' assumption that she is his wife, Titi becomes prompted to tell him to read the room. While having Lukas join them for dinner, the young man openly expresses his enjoyment of the meal to Julian, Diana, and Titi, shedding tears of joy over finally having decent food. The mood then dampers for them when Lukas recounts his challenging history as a mercenary in the corp.[21]

At night, Diana and Titi step outside to find Julian coming under attack by Lacrima. In the midst of the battle, Diana becomes captivated by Lacrima assuming a giant form after absorbing the water from the aqueduct but becomes concern for Julian as Lacrima has him drown and crushed by water pressure inside her liquid body.[22] Her worries soon turn into amusement by the rain of water dropping down from Julian using his ink smoke to trigger an explosion and escape Lacrima's body.[23]

Following the decision made by the four to lay Lacrima in one of their beds, Diana stood by her bedside until she regained consciousness, having become fascinated by her ability to transform her body into water. When Lacrima finally opened her eyes, Diana grasped her skirt, hoping to observe her power once again. Following an invitation from Titi to join them for breakfast, Diana interacts with Lacrima by telling her what is being served and offers to feed her upon noticing and being amused by the sound of her stomach growling. However, Lacrima declines this offer, expressing her discomfort at being treated in such a manner. She then conveys her admiration for Lacrima's power, which leaves Lacrima feeling somewhat unsettled by the child's friendly attitude. Shortly after, Diana waves goodbye to Lacrima as she departs.[24]

The next day, Diana reacts with excitement to see Lacrima again after the princess decided to return to seek "revenge". In response, Julian tells Lacrima to come another day as he and the others are busy fixing the aqueduct she damaged the previous day. Titi further mentions that their drinking water supply has been depleted. Convinced that she can address this issue with her abilities, Lacrima channels water from her own body into the bucket held by Titi. This action, however, elicits a reaction of disgust from both Diana and Titi. Following Diana's request for Lacrima's assistance in fixing the aqueduct, she becomes thrilled to witness Lacrima employing her powers to help with carrying water from a nearby river. Shortly after, she enjoys lunch with Julian and Lukas.[25] Later at night, Diana and Lukas come out disturbed by the commotion between Julian, Lacrima, and Titi and are asked for help by the young man as the two women tug at his arms. Diana then rests in Julian's arms as he converses with Titi, Lukas, and Lacrima.[26] Lukas updates Julian, Titi, and Lacrima about the upcoming meeting with the Margrave scheduled for three days later. Diana expresses her excitement upon learning that the meeting coincides with her birthday.[27]

On the day of the event, Diana goes out shopping with her friends and family for her and Julian's birthday and later enjoys the celebration back home.[28] Unfortunately, the festivities are interrupted by the arrival of Elstri and her group of assassins. While Julian decides to face them alone, Lacrima and Lukas guide Diana and Titi to the safe escape route, although Lukas later mysteriously disappears. The trio then encounters Elstri and three of her assassins. Diana voices her worries of the threats in front of them to Lacrima but receives reassurance from her that everything will be okay as she vows to protect her and Titi.[29] Diana watches as Lacrima emphasizes her new place in their group to Titi and prepares to fight the assassins. Suddenly, Lukas appears and swiftly dispatches one of the assassins with his sword, to which Titi covers Diana's eyes so she does not witness the violence in front of them.[30]

While Lukas confronts the sword-wielding gifted assassin, Lacrima stands guard over Diana and Titi, defending them from another gifted assassin. The situation escalates when Lacrima makes the ultimate sacrifice, jumping in front of a lethal pillar attack directed at Diana and Titi, which horrifies them. However, as the gifted assassin closes in, Lacrima unexpectedly reemerges behind him and strikes with her water blade. She explains to the assassin how she pretended to be dead during their earlier battle, leading Diana and Titi to rush to her, relieved to find her alive.[31]

Diana, Titi, and Lacrima regroup with Lukas, with him also victorious in his fight against his opponent.[32]

Equipment

Mira's dagger: In a glance of the future shown by Elstri, Diana is shown possessing the dagger that once belonged to her late mother. The dagger was also shown emitting a dark aura, although it is unclear whether this effect was due to Diana's influence or a property of the weapon itself.
