Mira (ミラ Mira?) was a slave who was close to Julian.
She serves as an important character in the Centuria manga, having gave Julian a new purpose in life by entrusting him to look after her newborn daughter Diana.
Appearance
Mira was a woman with short black hair and green eyes. She wore ragged and dirty clothes, which included a cloak with a gem held together.
Personality
Mira was a kind, gentle, and compassionate woman, as she was a slave that highly valued such behavior and believed that helping others allowed her to maintain her pride as a human being. After the slave transporters were prepared to kill and throw Julian off the ship, due to the ship only having a limited supply of food to feed everyone, Mira stepped up and offered to split her rations with him despite still being pregnant. She was very protective of her loved ones to where she put their priorities above her own. This stemmed from her guilt over the loss of her late son who died protecting her while she was still carrying Diana. Having formed a bond with Julian who reminded her of her son, Mira willingly sacrificed herself to the Sea to prevent him from giving up his life for her, but not before entrusting him with Diana after forcibly cutting open her stomach to save her life as well.
Relationships
Family
Son
Mira had a son who died protecting her from slave transporters while she was still pregnant with Diana. Ever since then, Mira became wrecked with guilt and viewed herself as being a failure of a mother.
Diana

Mira cared very much for Diana while she was still pregnant with her. She hoped that once her baby was born they could find happiness in the cruel world she lives in, even if it meant living the rest of her life feeling miserable. After she and Julian were demanded by the octopus-being to give up one of their lives, Mira cut open her stomach to deliver Diana, sparing her baby from her willingness to become the sacrifice to save Julian, and lovingly held her daughter for the first and last time before entrusting her to Julian. She then told them both that she loves them as her children before jumping into the sea.
Slaves
Mira was on good terms with her fellow slaves on the ship transporting them. The slaves looked after Mira since she was pregnant, as a few offered up their food to her, wanted her to take it easy by doing her chores, and ultimately gave up their lives shielding her and Julian from the transporters killing them all off.
Julian

Mira had a mother-son relationship with the slave Julian. She saved him from being thrown overboard after being found as a stowaway, and from there, she presented him with kindness and felt comfortable opening her heart out to him. Julian in turn also cared for Mira, as he was willing to take on her chores, on top of his own, to have her rest since she was pregnant. Having developed a bond with him, Mira hoped that if the time came when they are liberated they could live together. Their time together came to an end after the slave transporters started to kill all the slaves onboard and an octopus-being requesting for either her or Julian to sacrifice themselves to her in order to lend them aid. Refusing to have Julian suffer the same fate as her late son, Mira chose to sacrifice herself to the octopus-being, but not before delivering Diana and entrusting her to Julian, telling them both in an embrace that she loves both of them as her children.
History
At some point in her life, Mira became a slave, was married and had a son. Around the time she was pregnant with her second child, Mira only had her son to look after her but lost him after he died protecting her from slave traders.
Synopsis
New Beginnings Arc

While lined up on deck with her fellow slaves being transported, Mira and the others find out that a young man stowed away on their ship and was prepared to be killed and thrown overboard. With the reason being that the crew only has a limited supply of food, Mira manages to save the young man after stepping in offering to share her portions. After being bunked with the young man, Mira asks him why he stowed away on a slave ship and explains her reason why she helped him, telling him that as a slave she values compassion and that helping people for no reason helps to maintain one's pride as a human being. Noticed by a slave to be holding onto the blade given to her by her husband, Mira is offered by the young man and is told about his backstory. Mira then thanks the young man named Julian and introduces herself.
While singing to her baby during the night, Mira is asked by Julian when she is expecting, answers soon, and places his hand on her stomach to have him feel the baby kicking. She then expresses her hope that her baby be born safe and live a happy life even at the cost of her own happiness. After Julian becomes flustered from hearing these words, due to never once received such kindness from his own mother, Mira embraces him as she assures them that love and kindness can be found in the cruel world they live in and begs him to not give up on people.
The next day, Mira thanks Julian for taking Lord the initiative of doing her workload to ensure that she can rest well for a safe delivery. Later, Mira is noticed by Julian to still be awake, explaining to him that she rests sitting up right to avoid feeling sick from lying down, and receives praise for taking Lord on the tough task of carrying a child. Despite the praise, Mira believes that she is a failure of a mother for not being able to protect her son and, although she hopes for her next child to be born safely, she worries if it will find happiness. After telling him this, Mira is hugged by Julian as he believes that her baby will find happiness based off the love she has for it, much to Mira's appreciation for such reassurance.
Out on the deck, Mira calls out to Julian to gaze at the starry night sky with her and asks if they could live together if ever liberated. Mira is told by Julian that he will think about it and accepts his response. The two then slept beside each other in their quarters.

After the slaves are called out on the deck during a stormy night, Mira and the others witness one slave being stabbed through the chest with a spear by a crew member and try to avoid being killed by the entire crew as they are order by their captain to slaughter them all as a way for him to make a profit through insurance money. In the end, Mira and Julian become the only slaves to survive. At the same time a crew member finds himself unable to move for some strange reason, Mira notices that the raindrops are frozen in midair and looks behind her to see an octopus-being emerging from the sea. The octopus-being tells Mira and Julian that she can give aid to only one of them, as the second condition for her wish granting requires either one of them to offer their life to her. With Julian stating his willingness to offer himself as the sacrifice so that Mira can live a happy life, Mira becomes reminded of her late son after looking at his face and grabs his hand to stop him from going through with this act. Refusing to have history repeat itself, Mira grabs her husband's blade, tells Julian that she leaves his new sibling in his care, and cuts open her stomach to deliver her baby. Mira holds her newborn daughter for the first and final time and decides to name her Diana before handing her over to Julian, who she embraces as she tells both him and Diana that she loves them both. Mira then takes one last look at Julian before jumping into the sea, leading to the latter receiving the octopus-being's blessings.
Legacy

Mira's sacrifice for Julian's sake left a great impact on him, as he had suffered from a case of survivor's guilt for being the one to live a life raising her daughter Diana instead of her. She, along with the other slaves, would also appear as a vision whenever Julian tapped into his 100 life-forces for strength. Upon getting his life together, Julian built a memorial for Mira after burying her cloak she wrapped around Diana when she was born and prayed that she rests in peace and watch over him and Diana.
Later, during Julian's fight with Arkos, the Sea appears before them and refers to Julian as her "son". Julian rejects her claim, prompting the Sea to shapeshift into Mira to better please him, though it only infuriates him. Throughout their encounter, the Sea continues to use Mira's form while talking with Julian. She also calls Diana her daughter, but Julian once again rejects her as their mother.
