Kyurex is a character in Dragon Quest X.

Dragon Quest X
Kyurex is an otherworldly being that traveled to Astoltia for unknown reasons. After arriving in Astoltia approximately 5700 years ago, he was in a weakened state and on the verge of death until he was rescued by a human named Retrius, the champion of the Made clan. The two became close friends, and as a sign of their friendship, Kyurex gave Retrius the power to travel through time. Along with Kyurex's ability to see through time and predict the future, they brought prosperity to the Made clan, and would later go on to become the founders of the ancient Ethene Kingdom, with Retrius as its first queen.
After Retrius passed away, her descendants would inherit her power of time-travel, and would continue to ask Kyurex to look through time to continue bringing prosperity to the Ethene Kingdom. But Kyurex became more and more disinterested in granting these requests after the death of his first and closest friend, and where he was once revered as a god-like entity, the Etheneans now began to plot how to take Kyurex's power for themselves. They imprisoned Kyurex in Made Temple in their ancestral homeland, and used their advanced alchemy to extract his power in the form of a giant bulb root called the Timeseer Source. Using the Timeseer Source, the Etheneans effectively created a "clone" of Kyurex, one that was only allowed to hear their requests and see through time, unable to refuse, and sealed it inside the Time Parabox. With no further use for Kyurex, the Etheneans moved their capital to the Royal City of Kimbel, leaving Kyurex sealed in Made Temple for the next 700 years. The Ethenean royal family then sealed the gate leading to those lands, making what had happened there their most closely guarded secret.
Even while sealed inside Made Temple, Kyurex was still aware of events occuring outside, as shown when he knew that Mereade and Quad had both been traveling across time, and that the age difference between them had reversed as a result. He also knows that Mereade and the Hero had come in search of a way to enter the Time Labyrinth, where Kyurex's now-corrupted clone, Kyronos, is hiding. After telling his story to the Hero and their group, they find the Timeseer Source in Ethene's Royal Greenhouse and return it to Kyurex, allowing him to regain his true form and his original powers.
After looking through time, Kyurex warns that the Ethene Kingdom, which had abused this power for the past 700 years to avoid disasters and mold history in their favor, has distorted destiny, and that these distortions have coalesced into an even greater calamity: a giant meteorite that will soon destroy the entire island. Quard refuses to believe this and storms off, while Mereade asks Kyurex if there is a way to prevent it. He explains that Retrius had anticipated something like this would happen, and so had a contingency plan in place in the form of the Eternal Ring, an hourglass sculpture located in Kimbel. As Kyurex is about to impart the knowledge of how to use the Eternal Ring to Mereade, Kyronos appears, having come to kill Kyurex as a threat to its plans to eradicate all life in Astoltia. Kyurex laments that Kyronos has become distorted after having been exposed to the darker nature of man for so long, and the two engage in battle, evenly matched. During the fight, Kyururu awakens from his nap and is nearly killed in the crossfire, until Kyurex deflects an attack which unfortunately caused Kyurex himself to be hit. Kyronos unleashes a volley of light spears at Kyurex before departing, confident that there is now nobody left to challenge his power. With his injuries being fatal, Kyurex uses the last of his strength to pass on his power and knowledge to Kyururu before disappearing in a shower of green lights.
Trivia
- According to the evil Jia Red Genos during his battle, he had last assumed his most powerful form when he and his clan destroyed the "blue fairies". Since Kyrurex's species has been the past referred as such, this could mean that his species is among the many others that were wiped out by the interstellar clan of invaders.
