Weronika (ヴェロニカ, Weronika^?) is a character released on the 2nd Anniversary of the Groovy Mix mobile game. She is a member of the group Abyssmare.

Appearance

Weronika has short dusty rose-pink hair with brown ends. She has slanted pink eyes and sports a tomboyish streak.

Background

Weronika's father is a touring musician working in Japan and used to be a member of a reasonably popular band which however, disbanded after 2 years of activity. Afterwards, he had trouble making ends meet, leading to him returning to the United States, moving in together with, and marrying Weronika's mother who was also his childhood friend. Due to their troubles with money, they had to start living in the poor and dangerous environment where Weronika was born. However, even after Weronika was born, her father refused to work and wasted time by gambling and drinking, forcing her mother to work her fingers to the bone in order to feed her and later on, her younger siblings as well. Eventually, her mother collapsed and ended up becoming hospitalized and unable to work. Around the same time, her father left back to Japan while also leaving all of his debts for his family to take care of.^[3]

Due to her surroundings, Weronika was unable to get a proper education and had to constantly protect her younger siblings. Before his disappearance, her father taught her how to sing when he was drunk. Weronika later became involved in her home area's darker part where "people gambled on anything and everything" and she started partaking in singing battles (referred to as "music vale tudo matches"), and was able to provide for her siblings and pay for her mother's treatments, as well as pay off the debts, thanks to the money people had bet on her.

One day, while Weronika was onstage and boasting how nobody really can beat her, the rest of the Abyssmare members appeared and performed after her. Feeling defeat for the first time, and after a conversation between Weronika and Neo, the latter invited her to join the unit. Weronika then took her offer in hopes that one day, she'll be able to overcome Neo.^[4]

Though Weronika is a member of Abyssmare, she has a strong rivalry with Neo and often picks fights with her. She is also quite physically strong, athletic, and has sharp dance moves. She has a rough way of speaking and can easily get angered. From the outside, she may appear to be a rather rude and conflicted person who has developed antagonistic relationships even with her unitmates, however, she is actually quite a caring and sincere person, especially with children and animals. Therefore, others often have to take some time to get to know her better in order to become friends with her. Despite getting angry when Elsie calls her an idiot, she also recognizes that she isn't that smart as a result of not being able to get proper education.

She also has a gentle and shy side, which is especially pronounced when something intimate, like a kiss seen on a movie screen, embarrasses her. She was also instantly "disarmed" when Aoi impressed her with her unrivaled charm and prince-ish demeanor during their chance meeting.

Etymology

Weronika (ヴェロニカ) is a name of Greek and Slavic origin, usually translating to "victory bringer". It is often romanized as "Veronica".
