Shimazu Shika

Overview
Relationships
Our music is definitely tough for shallow listeners.
It just doesn't resonate with those who are only looking for something poppy and cute.

Shimazu Shika (島津詩歌?) is a secondary character in D4DJ Groovy Mix and is a member of A Bad Cynic Doggo.

Profile

While she gives off the image of a girl who can do anything, Shika is a contradictory girl who tends to overcomplicate things. She is obsessed with all sorts of subcultures.

A talented musician ever since she was young, Shika gained some recognition as a turntablist. However, as she started fully devoting herself to music, she ended up becoming even more lost.[1]

Appearance

Shika has grey hair with lighter silver highlights that is tied into a messy ponytail. She has sharp silver-teal eyes and pale skin.

Background

Shika grew up surrounded by music at a young age. In sixth grade, she was selected to play the piano for her middle school's choir competition and received heavy praise by her choirmates for her improvisational skills. According to Eimi, for an ordinary girl that had never been in the spotlight, the praise she received aroused her need for validation in music. On the day of the actual competition however, she was criticized for playing off the sheet, despite it being her way of covering the other performers' imperfections. This led to Shika quitting piano, and intensified her nonconformist approach to music.[2]

She is also childhood friends with Bell, who furthered Shika's relationship with music by introducing her to DJing. This allowed Shika to find a talent with turntables, where she won the junior division of a turntablist competition when she was in middle school. After her win, she performed at DOGHOUSE, the club that Bell's father owns, and was approached by a scout to go pro. According to Bell, Shika received more of these offers, but turned them all down as she was unwilling to be marketed like an idol or forced into mainstream appeal at the cost of her own musical identity.[3]

Personality

Shika has quite a relaxed personality, except for when it comes to her passions, as seen in her initial card episode and main story. She very greatly looks up to Kyoko, as in A Bad Cynic Doggo VOL.1, she hid in a store to admire her from afar, and she did something similar in Yoba Academy in VOL.2 while observing Kyoko speaking to Shinobu.

Being the self-proclaimed "Number 2 of A Bad Cynic Doggo", she's passionate about her role as a DJ. Not only is she skilled at it, but she experiments with turntables. Shika is deeply immersed in her interests, especially niche music scenes that she finds to be unappreciated by others. She's described as a "subculture snob", not wanting to cater to mainstream tastes with her music. She makes statements indicating that she's picky about her audience, though she tries not to give off a snobbish impression publicly. Deep down, however, she wants her music niche to be more accepted. She is also very attached to DOGHOUSE, being very enthusiastic in trying to save it from closing. Shika has a very close bond with those in her unit.
