Pepper's VoiSona Song Voice was also installed in the robot's "Improvisational Performer" (即興パフォーマーとは Sokkyō Performer) application which can improvise lyrics using ChatGPT, melodies using Orpheus technology, singing using VoiSona technology and allowing the robot to dance when provided with themes and keywords. On January 11, 2024, SoftBank Robotics announced that synthesized voices of the same quality will also be available on VoiSona.[3]

Trivia

  • In 2014, earlier models of the Pepper robot were equipped with AITalk[4][5] vocal synthesis technology developed by AI, Inc. to communicate, specifically using the voice of Maki (まき)[6], one of the many AI, Inc. avatars created for the AITalk software, based on the voice of Tamiyasu Tomoe, who's voice was also used as the basis for AH-Software Co. Ltd.'s brand of text-to-speech software, VOICEROID+ using the same voice for Tsurumaki Maki.[7] It is currently unknown if Tamiyasu Tomoe reprised her role as the voice provider for Pepper as the voice provider has not been disclosed.
    • Following Pepper's release for VoiSona, Tamiyasu Tomoe posted a tweet under the alias of her Virtual YouTuber persona, Tammy (たみー), regarding the image use rights of Pepper, remarking the peculiarity and difficulty of using Pepper's voice library as using the official Pepper artworks was disallowed, nor was using secondary works permitted. She also posted an advertisement encouraging users to purchase Pepper for VoiSona.[8] Two months later on March 22, 2024, Tammy hosted a live Nico Nico Broadcast showcasing a cover of Happy Synthesizer featuring herself and Pepper as part of the 2024 Utattemita Collection (歌ってみたCollection). The video's title made reference to the pair's voices sounding similar, further alluding that Tomoe could in fact be the voice provider for Pepper.[9][10]
