Chis-A

Chis-A (知声 | ちせい) is a Japanese Song Voice developed by Techno-Speech, Inc. and was released for CeVIO Pro in February 2022 as an alpha (α) prototype. Chis-A was re-released for the newly re-branded VoiSona voice synthesis software in June 2022 as a beta (β) prototype.^[1] Her full VoiSona production version was released in September 2022.^[2]

An English version of Chis-A was developed for VoiSona known as Chis-A [tʃíːseɪ] and was released in February 2023.^[3][4] In February 2025, Chis-A was announced to be receiving a Talk Voice for the VoiSona Talk engine and is expected to be released in the fall of 2025.

Her voice provider has not been revealed.

Concept

Chis-A is conceptualized as a 19-year-old, singing artificial intelligence that resides in the private internal network of a certain laboratory. She is noted to be a hard worker who studies under the staff providing her with new vocal data each day. She sounds almost human in her singing abilities and although she looks like an adult, retains a child-like personality. She can be impulsive at times, however, she is affectionately loved by all of the members.

Etymology

Chis-A's name consists of the kanji "知", meaning "wisdom", and "声", meaning "voice". The official pronunciation of Chis-A's name is phonetically written as "[tʃíːseɪ]".

Chis-A has short, angular choppy grey bangs with orange tips and a long thin braid. Her eyes are lime-akin green. Her shirt is a green-tinted beige with an orange hem and neckline. White buttons adorn the neck. A thin, black belt is tied around her waist. Chis-A's skirt is long and flowy, the same aforementioned green-beige that gradually fades into a deep orange color at the hem. Her gloves are long, black opera-style fingerless gloves. Her fingernails are painted a pale orange. On Chis-A's feet are black and orange, white-soled platform shoes. Over her outfit she wears a green-beige coat with an orange hue on the its collar.

In her English design, Chis-A’s hair is tied back into a loose ponytail, and the ends are curled. Her left ear is adorned with five gold ear cuffs, and five ear cuffs with golden tails. She wears a black, sleeveless, form-fitting, one-piece bodysuit with two slits cut out over her abdomen, laced up in the back. The collar she wears is attached to the neckline of her top by two thick vertical straps, and four thin straps purely for esthetics. The collar is black with yellow bands and a yellow circle ornament. Connected to the belt on her waist is a see-through black and orange ombré miniskirt. Two see-through puffed sleeves adorn her shoulders. Her fingerless gloves are black with white tips that show her golden fingernails. The pattern on her legs is designed after a music staff consisting of five gold strands on both legs. Chis-A wears two boots of different length: her right boot reaches just above her knee, and her left is a short boot. Both boots are black with tall, thin orange heels, and three orange rings on the hem.

Chis-A's VoiSona Talk illustration was repurposed from her 3rd anniversary illustration, illustrated by cherico. The heart motif used in her 3rd anniversary illustration was described as a symbolic element of the love that Chis-A has received thus far. It was the hope of Techno-Speech, Inc. that fans would continue to watch Chis-A's growth. With the new illustration, Chis-A would be challenging herself to do new things beyond singing, such as DJing and many other things.^[5]

Marketing

Chis-A had an official twitter account created for her on February 19, 2022.^[6] The trademark for the name, "知声" was officially filed by Techno-Speech, Inc. on December 1, 2021 ^[7], while the Romanized spelling, "Chis-A" was filed January 24.^[8]

Concept illustrations of Chis-A were released on February 20, 2022.^[9]

A post-release feedback campaign for CeVIO Pro (α) was launched starting on February 24, 2022. Users who provided feedback on the alpha version of CeVIO Pro were offered a chance to receive Chis-A themed downloadable content, including:

  • Various audio files (instrument sound source, vocal track, chorus track)

As part of the VOICECONNECT 2 doujinshi convention held on March 27, 2022, a series of Chis-A themed merchandise featuring her key illustrations was released. These included two types of acrylic stands, three types of can badges, a rubber mat and a tote bag.^[11]

An upcoming, four-song EP album titled "C#1" featuring Chis-A is set to be released on April 24 at the 2022 Music Media-Mix Market exhibition. This EP will contain her three original demonstration songs as well as a new song produced by PolyphonicBranch. The EP will additionally be available for purchase spanning April 29 through April 30, 2022, during the annual THE VOC@LOID M@STER (超ボーマス) event.^[12]

Chis-A & Sato Sasara
collaboration; illust. cherico

On June 2, a collaboration featuring Chis-A and Sato Sasara debuted with an original illustration by cherico.^[13][14] On June 9, 2022 a series of exclusive merchandise featuring the key illustration was released on the official Chis-A BOOTH account^[15] including; a B3-sized horizontal tapestry,^[16][17] a large 100mm tin badge ^[18][19], and a large acrylic figure.^[20][21] A life-sized cardboard panel of the two was also created to be showcased at live exhibitions such as the Techno-Speech Inc. booth at the CeVIO FeSTA 7 event.^[22]

To celebrate the first anniversary of Chis-A’s debut, an illustration contest was announced to be held in collaboration with the content submission site piapro with support by Crypton Future Media, Inc.. Chis-A's official illustrator cherico, VoiSona official, and piapro would select the submissions with monetary prizes and commentary awarded to the winning entry. The main subject was to revolve around Chis-A, however, participants were encouraged to submit illustrations featuring other VoiSona vocalists such as Sato Sasara, Kirune, and AiSuu, or piapro characters such as Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO and KAITO. The submission deadline was announced to end on March 3, 2023.^[23]

To commemorate the release of Chis-A's English voice library, known as Chis-A [tʃíːseɪ] on February 24, 2023, Techno-Speech, Inc. announced a free trial campaign allowing users to try Chis-A [tʃíːseɪ] voice library for free for one month from the date of application when after signing up on the official VoiSona website between the release date on February 24 (12 noon) and February 28, 23:59 (JST).^[24]

On February 16, a black silhouette featuring a new illustration for Chis-A was released on the official Chis-A Twitter account, following an announcement that a new commemorative illustration would be released for her 3rd anniversary.^[25][26] The new illustration, which would later serve as the illustration for her upcoming VoiSona Talk voice library, was released the following day, announced to be illustrated by Cherico.^[27] A selection of merchandise featuring the new design was announced to be released on the official Techno-Speech, Inc. booth account.^[28] Concept illustrations were also released.^[29] A live 3D DJ event titled "Chis-A's Learning Center" (知声の学び舎) was simultaneously announced and would be held on February 24, 2025 featuring a brand new 3D model of her third anniversary illustration.^[30][31][32] Chis-A would officially celebrate her third anniversary on February 24, 2025, receiving a new animated music video produced by isonosuke.^[33] On February 25, following the celebration, Chis-A was announced to be receiving a Talk Voice library, announced to be in development for VoiSona Talk, and was expected to be released in the fall of 2025.^[34][35] A second commemorative 3D music video was also released, produced by Pleco (プレコ).^[36][37]
