Blowback

Blowback

Blowback is a status effect characterized by sending Bloons away from the exit. Bloons affected by Blowback can still be targeted and damaged by towers. It was introduced in the Bloons TD 4 Generation with the Monkey Apprentice's Summon Whirlwind upgrade, but became more prominent starting in the Bloons TD 5 Generation with the introduction of the Ninja Monkey's Distraction and Heli Pilot's Downdraft upgrades. It is part of the damage types family.

Blowback is represented on Bloons Wiki as Blowback (unspecified blowback variant), the upgrade icon for Downdraft in Bloons TD 6, as it depicts the wind the Heli Pilot emits pushing Bloons away from the exit.

Blowback is distinct from Knockback (unspecified knockback variant)Knockback in that it sends Bloons to another point on the path directly, flying off the path if necessary, rather than forcing them to move backwards along the path.

Some attacks with Blowback use RNG Involves pure RNG (unspecified types of RNG involved that isn't controllable at all by the player) to determine how far Bloons will be sent away from the exit, while others use Per-Shot Basis Per-Shot Basis (unspecified variants and style of alternating projectiles). Distraction is unique in that it uses RNGInvolves pure RNG (unspecified types of RNG involved that isn't controllable at all by the player) to determine both how far Bloons will be sent away from the exit and which Bloons will be affected.

Superstorm, and Psi's Psionic Scream both have a unique Blowback effect that affects MOAB-Class Bloons. In BTD Battles 2, Grandmaster Ninja crosspathed with Distraction can also affect MOAB-Class Bloons, but only up to BFBs.

Most towers require an upgrade to apply Blowback, with the sole exception of the Ninja Kiwi Special Agent in Bloons TD 5.
