The Chimera is a prototype tank-destroyer exclusive to Canada that was introduced in the Vox Populi DLC for Wargame: AirLand Battle.
History
The 'Chimera' is a little-known concept vehicle, apparently devised as a sort of 'placeholder' designation during attempts at Canadian organizational overhauls in the 1970's and 80's. No Chimera prototype was ever built; the vehicle remained purely conceptual. Chimera tank destroyer was a British School of Tank Technology study design to develop a cheap and simple Armoured Fighting Vehicle using FV4201 Chieftain Tanks components. A hypothetical plan was to pair a Chimera tank destroyer with a M113 TUA in the Anti-tank platoon.[1]
Overview
Chimera is the only Canadian vehicle with a thick frontal armor. With a 20 frontal armor it can absorb a lot of damage with ease. However the vehicle doesn't have a turret, thus needs to turn in order to shoot, exposing its side armor in the process. The main gun has a low AP value and takes a long time to reload.
However, due to the lack of armor for the Canadian roster, the Chimera's frontal armor is quite an asset. It can be used to keep the enemy at bay, despite the fact that the main cannon have only 19 AP damage (which isn't even remotely enough to kill heavy tank) it still can be a threat if the enemy gets closer. So it can keep the enemy at bay while absorbing some damage allowing the deadly Canadian ATGM carriers like LAV-III TUA or M113 ADATS to be the real damage output. As a result, Chimera is quite an asset in a Canada only deck and can be used like a heavy tank.
