Available to REDFOR forces, the B-5 is an export variant of the Soviet Il-28 bomber.
History
The Il-28 (NATO Reporting Name: BEAGLE) is a jet-powered, twin-engine, subsonic medium bomber. The type was exported to a variety of Soviet allies and was license-built by Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation as the H-5. The type can carry up to 3,000kg of bombs internally and has four cannons, two in the nose, and two in the tail. The type is still in service with the North Korean People's Army Air Force.
Overview
Red Dragon
The B-5 is a North Korean medium bomber available to REDFOR decks. It carries the largest bomb available in Red Dragon: the 3000-2 3000kg bomb. This bomb has enormous explosive power, with an HE value of 30 and exceptional suppression. The 3000-2 will destroy all but the most heavily armored tanks in a single pass. The B-5 is also unique in that it has a strength of 15. This helps to make up for its lack of defensive armaments, as it will take at least 3 NATO long range missiles to bring the B-5 down (excepting Phoenix with an HE value of 8). This is largely the only thing the B-5 has going for its defense, as it otherwise has an aerial cannon, which is on a tail gunner.
The B-5 is a choice asset for bombarding lightly to moderately armored columns, infantry in buildings, or to hit spotted high value targets. Its disadvantages are that is has no ECM, no air to air missiles, and so is vulnerable to both IADS and fighters. An escort should be considered when deploying the B-5.
