~ Zokket before confronting the Mario Bros. |
Lord Zokket is the main antagonist of the 2024 Nintendo role-playing video game Mario & Luigi: Brothership.
He is the leader of Extension Corps who leads the Zok Troops in a move to bring about Concordia's demise with a poison/energy known as "Glohm" throughout the land in the hopes of bringing back his greatest inspiration, Reclusa. His true form is later revealed to be Cozette, Connie's mentor, who had been possessed by the Glohm controlled by Reclusa.
Biography
Cozette served as the mentor of Connie, training her on the Wattanists' duties. At some point in the past, she found the egg that was used to harbor Reclusa. From the Glohm leaking from the egg, he corrupted Cozette, transforming her into Zokket. Under orders from the "great inspiration", Zokket formed the Extension Corps to spread Glohm across Concordia.
Throughout the game, he supervises the Mario Bros. in their journey across Concordia, tasking the Extension Corps to take them out. He also tends to the egg, telling his master that his rebirth was almost complete.
Later on, with help from Bowser, the Bros. raid Zokket's fortress as the Extension Corps lure them there by capturing Bowser Jr. However, Zokket reveals this was a trap by placing the fortress in the middle of Concordia, where the Glohm from the four Great Lighthouses intertwine and strike Bowser, transforming him into Glohm Bowser.
Mario and Luigi eventually confront Zokket in his fortress, harboring the Glohm collected to Reclusa's egg. He comments that he should have destroyed them while he had the chance and not relied on his minions. After a battle, Zokket remarks it was no big deal as Reclusa's egg was close to hatching. With his purpose concluded, Zokket offers what remains of his energy to Reclusa before collapsing. The Glohm disappears from his body, revealing Cozette.
After returning to her senses, Cozette aids the Mario Bros. in storming the Soli-Tree to stop Reclusa.
Appearance
Zokket wears a dark red cloak with a pair of red wire cutters on his chest, which he can wield as two swords. He wears a large black top hat on his head and hides his face with a white skull-like mask, with orange eyes peeking out. In the second phase, he grows large red wings in his back.
Personality
Zokket is the ruthless leader of the Zok Troops, determined to hatch his great inspiration to spread loneliness across all of Concordia. He remains quite stoic, rarely losing his cold temper unless things do not go the way he planned. Additionally, his memory appears to be faulty as he continuously misnames other characters, including his own henchmen.
Powers and Abilities
Trivia
- His name Zokket is a play on the word "socket".
- Zokket is one of the few villains in the Mario franchise who directly talks about death.
- Unlike the other main antagonists of the Mario & Luigi series, Zokket does not have his own boss battle theme.
- Zokket's role in Brothership is similar to Princess Shroob from Partners in Time. Both are major antagonists that serve as the main villain but after their final defeats, both were revealed to working for an imprisoned greater evil (Reclusa and the Elder Princess Shroob) which ends up becoming the final bosses in the games. The main difference is that Zokket was brainwashed by Reclusa while Princess Shroob chooses to be evil.
