~ Samukai in Day of the Departed. |
Samukai is the secondary antagonist of the Pilot Episodes and a supporting antagonist of the Day of the Departed TV Special in LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
He was the leader of the Skulkin army who served as the ninja's first foe. Initially under the command of Lord Garmadon, Samukai betrayed the villain by attempting to use the four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu against him, only to be met with his demise instead.
He is voiced by the late Michael Kopsa, who also voiced General Vex in the same series, and Baron Von Ravendale in Barbie: Princess of Power.
History
He is a powerful four–armed giant skeleton who was the ruler of the Underworld until Garmadon arrived and dethroned him by besting him in a duel, and became the master of the Skulkin. Samukai and his men are looking for four golden weapons that grant great power, and ultimately he and Lord Garmadon defeat the ninjas and take the weapons from them. However, instead of giving his master the weapons, Samukai betrays Garmadon and tries to use the weapons himself, only to be destroyed by their power. He is the first character in Ninjago to actually die.
Years after his death, Samukai was finally resurrected by Sensei Yang, alongside Generals Kozu and Cryptor, Master Chen and Morro, to destroy the Ninjas. Samukai attempted to kill Jay to take his place among the living, but was defeated by the ninja with Ronin's help and sent back to the Departed Realm.
Personality
A highly skilled yet sinister warrior, Samukai frequently uses underhanded battle tactics in his fights. He also resorts to using fear and intimidation in order to make his opponents feel oppressed and hopeless.
Samukai is able to accept long-term and/or undesirable consequences as long as he gets what he eventually wants, as shown with him reluctantly serving Garmadon for a decade in the hopes that once he got his hands on the Golden Weapons, Samukai would use them to betray the Dark Lord and take back his place as King of the Underworld, and choosing to go after Jay during the Day of the Departed, despite having no personal vendetta against the Ninja of Lightning, just to return to the living world.

Trivia
- He is the first four-armed character in the series.
- The actual figure of Samukai is one of, if not the rarest and most expensive in the Ninjago toyline, as he only appears in the two largest sets of the Pilots and does not have a spinner unlike every other character. As a result, he regularly sells for at least 20–30 dollars online.
