S-Snake is a supporting antagonist in the One Piece anime and manga series. She is a Seraphim and a clone of, one of the former Seven Warlords of the Sea, Boa Hancock which was made to serve the interests of the World Government.
She was voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi in Japanese and Lindsay Sheppard in English.
Biography
S-Snake appears along with S-Hawk and multiple Marines in their mission to locate and capture Boa Hancock, one of the former Warlords of the Sea, on Amazon Lily. While on her mission, she attacked the Kuja people. Despite Blackbeard's appearance which led to him nearly capturing Hancock himself, S-Snake left the island.
Days after her mission on Amazon Lily, she appears with multiple CP0 agents on Egghead Island to deal with the issue of Dr. Vegapunk researching the Void Century. Despite appearing on the island to assist CP0 in their mission, she was following orders by Sentomaru. However, Rob Lucci attacks Sentomaru which resulted in the Seraphim attacking on orders of CP0 and S-Snake petrifying multiple men. Sentomaru manages to regain a bit of his composure after the attack to order S-Snake to help the Straw Hats escape.
As the mission on Egghead continues, York gives orders to her and the other Seraphim to follow her plan. S-Snake continues to follow CP0's order. At one point, she encounters York and petrify her and attacked the Usopp, Franky, Lilith, and Pyhtagoras. At one point, she undoes the petrification of York when none of her enemies notices and fights her. She continues to fight against Usopp, Franky, and Lilith and manages to trick Franky before petrifying him on half his body and then moving on to petrify Usopp and Lilith. As Franky plead with her to undo the petrification on Usopp and Lilith, she locates Pythagoras and killed him.
At some point, S-Snake encounters Monkey D. Luffy. When he realized she petrified Usopp, Franky, and Lilith, he plead with her to undo the petrification. She went against her orders and un-petrify them as S-Snake has Hancock's love for Luffy inside of her. She is imprisoned along with the other Seraphim and is visibly frustrated with having went against her orders to listen to Luffy. As the Egghead Incident intensifies with the arrival of the one of the Five Elders, Jaygarcia Saturn, and Admiral Kizaru, thousands of Marines, and eventually the remaining Elders on the island, S-Snake was shocked to notice the Labophase getting bisected by Ethanbaron V. Nusjuro before being sucked into Shepherd Ju Peter's sandworm form and spat out. She remained in the bubble as the Straw Hats and the Giants fought against the Elders. As Emet unleashed Joy Boy Haki to knock out the Marines and Vice Admirals, S-Snake remained conscious and still imprisoned in the bubble as she tells the unconscious Marines that the Straw Hats are getting away.
Powers and Abilities
S-Snake is an exceptional variant of the cybernetic Pacifistas, designed and built by the genius Dr Vegapunk, and as a result, has several different exceptional abilities.
Pacifista Qualities: First, as a Pacifista, she is incredibly strong, durable, and tough, far stronger than most humans. She has an iron will, able to resist even Joy Boy's haki, something even Vice-Admirals succumbed to. She can also fire destructive bolts of energy from her hands.
Pyrokinesis: Being birthed via gene-splicing of human and lunarian, she can shroud the wings on her back with flames and use them offensively.
Green Blood: Being a cloned using Boa Hancock as a model, she has "inherited" Boa's Devil Fruit power via her Green Blood, a manmade substace that is infused created using the model as a catalyst. Thus, she can turn foes to stone is they are charmed by her. While Boa does so via her unearthly beauty, S-Snake relies on her cute and child-like appearance.
Haki: S-Snake has been shown using Observation and Armament haki.
Weaknesses
While she does not truly require food or rest, she has an internal battery that must be charged in order for her to function; how long such a charge lasts is unknown.
Despite her "inherited" powers derived from Green Blood rather than an actual Devil Fruit, she has the same vulnerabiity to sea water as a Devil Fruit user.
Despite her incredibe power, S-Snake also has the personality of the child she resembles; she often resorts to juvenile-sounding insults and has shown to be unusually receptive to compliments from others.
Trivia
- Exactly how S-Snake fell in love with Luffy and violated her programming is a mystery even to Vegapunk, who theorized it was due to a "Lineage Factor", meaning she has the same affection to Luffy as the "model" due to genetics alone. This, of course, is absurd by the standards of real-world biology and genetics, but stranger things have happened in the series.
- Her favorite food is Chinese-style hot pot, another trait she shares with Hancock.
- She is a Seraphim, a name that in mythology is assigned to the highest-ranking of angels, said to be agents of God's purification. This is certainly reflective of them being a superior design of Pacifista (possibly intended as the final iteration of Pacifista technology) and servants of the Celestial Dragons, the ruling class of the World Government who claim to be gods.
- Also, the word "Seraphim" translates to "the fiery ones", originating from the Hebrew root word "sarov", which means "to burn". This again refers to the Celestial Dragons' desire to purify the world by fire (a perversion of religious dogma) and to his lunarian heritage.
- The Seraphim were not the first experiment undertaken by Vegapunk to use the Lineage Factor, as he had used a similar procedure to create a duplicate of Kaido's Devil Fruit; he considered this past experiment a failure. Granted, Vegapunk is a perfectionist who tends to regard experiments as failure if there is even a small flaw in the result.
- Despite being artifical life, her ability to use Haki implies she has a soul.
