Galdino, better known as Mr. 3 is a supporting antagonist in the One Piece franchise.
He is a former officer of the criminal organization, Baroque Works, Galdino serves as a partner to Marianne or Miss Goldenweek. After the end of the Summit War, Galdino joined Buggy the Clown and Alvida into forming their alliance known as "Buggy's Delivery" before merging into the Cross Guild.
His voice was provided by Nobuyuki Hiyama in the Japanese version. In the English versions of the anime, his voice was provided by Dwayne Tan in Odex dub, Tom Souhrada in 4kids dub, and by Duncan Brannan in Funimation dub.
Appearance
Galdino is a fairly-tall man with a combed black hair. He is always seen wearing his glasses. His hair is tied to form the number 3, hence his alias. His hair would usually form different shapes such as a question mark or exclamation mark depending on the situation he's at. His initial attire consists of a sleeveless white shirt with frills, a purple bowtie, a striped vest, and a long pants.
Personality
Galdino has shown to be narcissistic, thinking highly of himself as a great artist and tactician during Little Garden arc. Despite being a cunning criminal, Galdino shows his cowardly side whenever he is in a situation that could endager his life such as when Crocodile drags him into his Banana Gators to be eaten or when Brogy becomes enraged at him and escaped from his Devil Fruit powers. Galdino has a distinct speech to implement the "-gane" append on every sentence he has made. Galdino is highly sadistic as he prefers torturing his opponents by transforming them into human sculptures made out of candle wax.
During his time as a prisoner of Impel Down, Galdino became a far more determined and courageous character, he even risked his life instead of trying to run away from danger like before, such as helping Monkey D. Luffy fight Magellan by using his Devil Fruit powers to support the young pirate. After Bentham sacrificed himself to help many of the prisoners escape Impel Down, Galdino disguised himself as one of the executioners in an attempt to free Portgas D. Ace to avenge his comrade.
History
Pre-timeskip
Galdino's past is unknown other than originating from the South Blue part of the Grand Line. At some time, he joined Baroque Works and became one of their officers.
Galdino arrived at Little Garden alongside his parter, Miss Goldenweek. They met up with Miss Valentine and Mr. 5, offering the two a second chance as a result of their failure in killing Nefertari Vivi back in Whisky Peak. Their plan is to capture both Brogy and Dorry, the two giants inhabiting Little Garden.
After Brogy seemingly defeated Dorry in an uneven match, Galdino used his candle wax to immobolize Brogy who was highly ecstatic at his victory against the other giant. He has also captured the other Straw Hat Pirates except Sanji, Luffy, and Usopp, while Miss Valentine and Mr. 5 captured both Karoo and Nefertari Vivi and Usopp after defeating them in a fight, revealing themselves to be the one who planted the bomb inside Dorry's food. Galdino then created a large candle wax construct resembling a cake trapping Zoro, Nami, and Vivi on it, intending the construct to melt and turning them into a human wax sculpture.
Luffy who had been trapped by Dorry earlier with a giant fossil managed to escape and fought Galdino, however, the pirate's personality eventually changed and as a result of Miss Goldenweek's paint which was her Devil Fruit ability. Despite this, Luffy managed to regain his normal self again, thanks to Usopp's intervention by destroying his shirt. Galdino then uses his Devil Fruit to create an armor made out of candle wax known as "Candle Champion". However, Luffy grabs Galdino by the hair and ignites the oil-covered rope from Karoo causing the candle sculpture to melt, freeing Zoro, Nami, and Vivi in the process.
The young pirate became enraged for crushing the giant's pride and fought him, however, Mr. 3 uses his Devil Fruit powers to create candle wax copies of himself. Despite this, he was defeated by Luffy who uses his senses to detect the real Galdino amongst the fake copies.
When Sanji poses as Mr. 3 to report about their mission progress to Mr. 0, he feigned their actual progress by claiming he took care of the Straw Hats. Mr. 0 was furious and convinced that the mission ended up in failure, telling Miss All Sunday to send Mr. 2 to assassinate him.
Galdino was later seen in Arabasta, pleading to Crocodile for a second chance due to his failure. However, Mr. 0 grabs him by the neck and uses his Devil Fruit ability to severely dehydrate the officer, putting them in the near brink of death before he was thrown into a trapdoor, falling to the pit of Banana Gators. Despite this, Galdino managed to survive. When Sanji attempted to find a key to free his trapped friends from Crocodile's Seastone cage, a ball of wax instead appears, revealing Mr. 3 survived before drinking a water leak to rehydrate himself. Sanji demanded to give the key to him, however, Galdino simply threw it away, causing Sanji to beat him and create a key made out of candle wax to free imprisoned Straw Hat Pirates and Smoker.
After Operation Utopia failed and Crocodile was defeated, he and most of the Baroque Works members were imprisoned at Impel Down.
At Impel Down, Galdino and Buggy worked together to free all the prisoners from Level 2, to start a riot. However their plan was foiled after Magellen easily subdued all escapees with his poison, trapping them in the prison. Later on, when the escapees led by Luffy encountered Magellan again, Galdino assisted Luffy into fighting Magellan, creating armor made out of candle wax for Luffy to safely attack Magellan with his poison. They managed to land a hit on Magellan, however, the warden used his last resort, causing him to become an extremely poisonous dragon. Later on, Galdino and the rest of the escapees managed to hijack a Marine battleship in order to head to Marineford.
At Marineford, Galdino subdued one of Ace's executioners, disguising as one. After Sengoku descided to execute both Ace and Luffy at the spot, it was revealed that Galdino was accidentally knocked by Luffy, but nonetheless regained consciousness, and used his candle wax to shield Ace from Sengoku's attack. After Kizaru destroyed Luffy's key, Galdino create one made out of candle wax and freed Ace, revealing that he did so in order to avenge Bentham. The platform holding the execution ground eventually collapse, causing all four to fall down, although Ace saved both in the nick of time. He was seen last time in Marineford removing Marco's shackles in order to fight Akainu.
Galdino later joined the Buggy Pirates. He received a letter for Buggy to become a member of the Seven Warlords. After the Warlords were dissolved, the Buggy Pirates were attacked by Marines fleet until Crocodile destroyed their fleet. Galdino soon betrayed Buggy to rejoin his former boss, Crocodile as well Mohji, Cabaji, Ritchie and Alvida serving under Crocodile.
Skills & abilities
- High-intelligence: Galdino's greatest weapon is his intelligence. He is a cunning strategist, often using opportune times to devise his schemes. Aside from being a great tactician, Galdino is also expert in stealth, managing to disguise himself as one of the executioners at Marineford as well as sneaking past the security systems of Impel Down alongside Buggy when the pair worked together.
- Doru Doru no Mi: Galdino's Devil Fruit is a Paramecia type that allows himself to control or manipulate candle wax. He can create any shape or form as he desires. Perhaps, the ability to create objects made out of candle wax is the Devil Fruit's greatest offense and defense, making it versatile in many situations as such creating a key made out of candle wax to bail imprisonment, immobilizing a target, or creating a barrier made out of candle wax to avoid incoming attacks. The candle wax is highly durable, being as strong as steel. However, its main weakness is its weakness to fire, leaving its user weakened when exposed to areas with extreme temperature. Apart from that, he is vulnerable against the standard Devil Fruit weakness.
Weaknesss
- Cowardice: While above cunning, Galdino's weakness aside from the standard Devil Fruit weakness is his cowardice; he would show signs of fear for his life whenever he faces significantly powerful opponents such as Magellan.
- Seawater: As a Devil Fruit user, Galdino is incapable of swimming, as any Devil Fruit users are rendered helpless when submerged in seawater (or even any deep water in general).
- Seastone: Seastone nullifies a Devil Fruit user's ability.
Trivia
- Galdino's birthday is March 3rd, referencing his alias.
- Galdino is seen in the manga floating in the water despite being a Devil Fruit user when he was defeated by Sanji back in Alabasta. However, in the anime, he is seen floating on top of a table.
