Gunko is a major antagonist in the Elbaph arc of One Piece franchise. She is a member of the Holy Knights in service of the Celestial Dragons and the World Government, as well as Figarland Shamrock's right-hand woman.
Personality
Gunko is shown to be calm and ruthless. She would usually ask an individual a question expecting them to give her the answer that she wants. However, if they do not give her the answer she expected, she would resort to violent measures as seen by how she attacked the giants for refusing to help her find Loki and how she tortured Loki for refusing to join the Holy Knights. Much like the Celestial Dragons, she sees those below the status of Celestial Dragons as commoners and inferior. In addition, to her supremacist mindset, she does not take it lightly when anyone of a status below that of a Celestial Dragon refuses to assist her or shows defiance and disrespect to her and her partner, Shamrock.
Much like most Celestial Dragons, she believes that the Celestial Dragons are divine beings. When Loki refused to join the Holy Knights, she is vexed over the idea that he would refuse the offer that so many others in the world would want and called him a commoner while beating and torturing him. She does not take Loki's insults towards the Celestial Dragons lightly and believed that torturing him into accepting the position would work. When her attempts to torture him failed, she is mildly surprised that he would rather die than become a Holy Knight.
In spite of her cruelty, she is shown to work well with her partner, Shamrock. Similarly to Shamrock, she does not mind having to take over Elbaph through force and is willing to participate in a mission that would subjugate the country to the World Government. She also shows herself capable of shyness, as she became bashful and blushed when seeing Sommers arrive in his undergarments.
Biography
Both Gunko and Figarland Shamrock teleported into the castle on Elbaph and managed to leave the castle. Along the way, she and Shamrock encountered two giants. She asks them if they can help them with locating Loki but as the giants refused she attacked them and ordered them to assist them. After some time, she and Shamrock made it to the Underworld level of Elbaph to find Loki to ask him to join the ranks of a Holy Knight. However, Loki refused their offer noting that he does not want to be scum. Loki's wolf appears and Gunko attacks it and holds it hostage with her Arrow-Arrow Fruit. Shamrock asks if they spare the wolf, if he will join their ranks to which Loki wished the wolf peace in death as he will take the rage of this moment to fuel him in his goal to destroy the world.
After some time passes, Gunko continues to torture and beat up Loki for refusing their offer. She mocks him as being a commoner. As Loki continues to refuse and tells her to stop, she continued to beat him until he goes unconscious after he give her a tongue out. She also attacks and kill more animals nearby. Shamrock tells her that they need to contact Mary Geoise for their next move as they intend to take over Elbaph for the World Government.
As Loki asks about Shamrock from noticing how he resembles one of the Four Emperors, Red Hair Shanks, Gunko tells him that it is none of his business. Loki agrees with her statement but wanted to know who Shamrock is since a World Noble and a pirate cannot be the same person. Shamrock explains to Loki that he Shanks is his younger estranged twin brother. Loki tells Shamrock that he earned his anger for murdering his pets and that when he is released, he will come after Shamrock. As Gunko tells Shamrock to not bother with Loki any longer, Shamrock attacks Loki with his Cerberus blade. Gunko and Shamrock leaves the vicinity that Loki is at. Shamrock tells Gunko that they will approach their conquest from a new point by targeting the children and that they need to summon another Holy Knight. Gunko asks him who the person should be.
Gunko and Shamrock lands in a forest. She performs the summoning via the Abyss and summons Rimoshifu Killingham and Shepherd Sommers. Gunko blushes at Sommers presence until he gets properly dressed. Shamrock and Gunko inform the two Holy Knights about their mission on Elbaph which starts with them abducting all the children in the country with their end goal to seize Elbaph and have it ruled by the World Government. Sommers and Killingham tells Shamrock that he is needed for the emergency situation in the Holy Land. As Shamrock leaves, Gunko, Sommers, and Killingham targets the children. Killingham puts the children to sleep and have them sleepwalk while he uses his devil fruit power to summon a group of giant monsters from the kid's imagination, Sommers uses his devil fruit abilities to protect the children from anyone interfering in their abduction, while Gunko guides the children to a location to have them taken off the island. Sommers asks Gunko what she fears to which she notes she fears Nika.
As the chaos ensues on the island, Gunko, Sommers, and Killingham notices the efforts of the residents trying to deal with the problem. Gunko, Sommers, and Killingham have a meal. As Killingham briefly puts Sommers to sleep to get salt from his mind to add to their meal, Gunko is visibly pleased by the meal. As the two Celestial Dragons think their mission to abduct the children is simple, Gunko tells them that she notices the Straw Hats ship on the edge of the island. At the same time they notice that a group of children is walking into a giant fire that was created by Loki. The trio says that if they die from the fire, they can have a new group of children walk over their corpses. As they continue to observe the chaos on the island, Gunko listens to "New World" with her headphones.
The trio watches the group of children as Gunko remarks about will happen to them until Jinbe saves them by putting out the fire. Gunko confronts Nami, Brook, Usopp, Jinbe, and Colon on their ship. She notices that Colin is the only kid that isn't with the other school kids. When Colon calls her a human, she responds by saying calling herself and her associates as gods. The group came to the conclusion that she is a part of the Holy Knight. She tells them that she intends to send the children to the Holy Land. Gunko uses her arrows to try and attack Usopp and deflects an attack meant for her from Nami and Zeus to Brook. Gunko begins to explain that the world is supposed to end suddenly without warning until Vegapunk, Clover, and Olvia warned everyone. As Usopp's attack destroys the upper part of her body, she regenerates and continues to tell them that now a world war will begin soon and wonders which side the giants will be on by then. As the Straw Hats and Colon express outrage and disgust at what she is doing, she remarks that the concept of hostages is meaningless to her and that she is only doing what she is ordered to do. Gunko proceeds to attack each of her enemies by deflecting Jinbe's and Brooks's attacks towards one another, kicking away Nami, and kneeing Usopp in the face before kidnapping Colon.
Trivia
- She seems to have heterochromia.
- Gunko is the only member of the God's Knight not to have "Saint" in her name, suggesting she might have been in the lower realm before becoming a God's Knight.
- Her Devil Fruit ability is eerily similar to Medusa Gorgon Vector arrows from Soul Eater.
