Description

Boss enemies are major bosses which generally spawn at the final wave. In some cases, an enemy may be considered a Boss enemy only for its first appearance. This gives it multiple immunities or resistances to various forms of stalling, even if these immunities are not visible under their health bar.

Mechanics

Boss enemies are immune to multiple effects, with varying degrees of resistance:

  1. Freeze immunity, making it fully immune to freeze and less affected by chillness.
  2. Stun immunity; any period of slowdown is weaker on Boss enemies and prevents knockback.
  3. Immunity to the Toxic Gunner slowdown, though it is still affected by its poison damage or defense dropping.
  4. Immunity from the Jester Confusion Bomb effect.
  5. Immunity to slowdown from the DJ Booth's purple Drop the Beat ability.
  6. Immunity to slowdown from the Harvester's Thorns ability (and by extension any thorns generated by Farms).
  7. Immunity to a damage type, the Nuke's fallout damage.
    • The explosion damage from the Nuke still affects Boss enemies.
  8. Boss enemies cannot have their defense dropped.
    • Due to a bug, burn and freeze defense dropping sources work on it.

Boss attribute also used to make enemies immune to these effects, but are not immune to them anymore:

  • When first added, Boss enemies were immune to being set on fire by the Pyromancer, to prevent them from being slowed down. This was removed in the Overhaul Update, as the Pyromancer no longer slowed down enemies.
  • When first added, Boss made enemies immune to the frost mark effect. This was removed in the Overhaul Update, as frost mark was removed from freezing towers.
  • Stun Immunity was originally Energy Immunity.

While Boss gives enemies some immunities, they are not always the same as the regular immunity. For example, the Boss Freeze Immunity only makes the enemies partially immune to chillness, unlike the regular Freeze Immunity which makes them completely immune to chillness.

Boss enemies are also immune to some enemy abilities. For example, the Fallen Jester cannot apply Bloated or Nimble to them while the Slime cannot transform into them.

Boss enemies have a purple health bar appear at the top of the screen. Most sounds, with some exceptions like game music will also get quieter.
