Our probes have picked up enemy activity in the Meteo planetoid system. It looks like Andross has built a planetoid crusher to clear a way through the belt for his invasion fleet. We need to have the Star Fox team check it out. Keep your eyes peeled as you move through the planetoids. Their movement is usually predictable, but if any of theses rocks collide, it could send them careening off in wild directions. We've also scanned some unusual warp energy readings in the sector. If you find the source of to explore it to find out if it is part of Andross's attack.” - —
Asteroids are obstacles that appear in several games in the series. They are large pieces of rock that float aimlessly through space and deal damage to Arwings upon contact. Asteroids can be found in several sizes, some as big as an Arwing (their most common size) or even bigger than the Great Fox, though some are much smaller.

Scientists speculate that the dense planetoid field of Meteo is all that remains of a fifth planet in the Lylat system. The planetoids here contain many minerals, but the depth of the field has not yet been explored. Space travel in this sector is not recommended.” - —
Asteroids are often abundant in various places in every game in the series. Two famous examples of locations containing Asteroids are the Meteo Asteroid Field and around Sauria's orbit when it was littered in Asteroids following the separation of the four SpellStone lands.
Some Asteroids are normally able to be destroyed for clearing a straighter flight path when using the Arwing and other star fighters armed with laser blasters. These Asteroids can be cleared using Laser firepower or by Smart Bombs, usually adding these towards the score check. This is exceptional to very large asteroids, including two large, hollow tunnelled ones at the Meteo Asteroid Field. Some hostile laser cannons are fitted onto rotating asteroids which are encountered just after the second hollow, tunnelled asteroid.
Andross is able to inhale and exhale asteroids through his telekinetic powers as his signature weapon, although these are not worth any hit points, they may leave[Supply Rings or even Smart Bombs behind.
The Meteo Crusher is specifically designed to clear up messy areas of space where unwanted asteroids and planets block the space lanes. The Star Fox Team's mothership Great Fox, is able to clear pathways in asteroid fields using it's laser cannons.

Trivia
- In Star Fox 64/3D, just before the warp zone rings, Falco Lombardi will fly in to help shoot a certain asteroid that drops behind a Gold Ring. The asteroid won't be destroyed if he is not active.
- Logically, the asteroids should be spaced much more widely, since in real life asteroids are very far apart - otherwise, gravity would cause them to collect together into one single body.
- Even though Asteroids are technically neutral entities and non-sentient, they are nevertheless counted under the Venomians Destroyed total in the post-game bill.
