Freja is an upcoming hero scheduled for release in Season 16, making her the 43rd hero to be added to the game.
Overview
Freja's kit is built for players who thrive on accuracy, agility, and pure tactical domination. She is well suited for players who thrive on precision and positioning.[1] Her kit combines high mobility with precision ranged attacks.[2]
Abilities
-12.5% received (tanks)
- 25% ultimate charge is granted over 2 seconds upon the third final blow.
- If Freja reaches 3 stacks when her ultimate ability is already available, the refund is stored and Freja gains the bonus charge after using her ultimate. More than one refund cannot be stored.
- The progress is indicated by the three markers below the crosshair.
- The progress persists even after being eliminated.
- Ultimate final blows also count toward the bonus.
- Self-damage final blows with
Take Aim and
Bola Shot do not count toward the bonus.
B.O.B. counts as a deployable and therefore does not count toward the bonus.
- Upon receiving the bonus after eliminating the third enemy, a money animation will play above them.

- Damage per second: 144.23 while firing (87.89 overall w/ reload)
- Can be fired while Take Aim is reloading.

90 - 30 (explosion, enemy)
45 - 15 (explosion, self)
0 + 0.5 seconds (bolt fired)
0.112 seconds (scope out without shot)
- When activated, Freja's movement in all directions is momentarily reduced by 80% and her gravity by 90%. Afterwards, Freja receives a movement speed penalty while on ground if Take Aim is held.
- Due to this Freja can jump and reach higher with her abilities when Take Aim is activated right after.
- The bolt sticks to enemies and terrain upon impact, exploding 1 second after.
- Take Aim is automatically released when the bolt is fired.
- The direct hit of the arrow can headshot. The delayed explosion does not.
- When the button for Take Aim is released, it cannot be used again for 0.4 seconds.
2 charges
10.24 m/s (upward, no input)
76 (over time)
100 - 60 (explosion, enemy)
50 - 30 (explosion, self)
-25% (area)
20 m/s (pull)
1.87 m/s (explosion)
- If an enemy is directly hit by the bola, they will take additional damage and cause nearby enemies to be pulled to them.
- The main target and all pulled enemies will be slowed by 75%.
- The main target will also be hindered, locking them out of movement abilities.
- After the bola impacts, it will deal periodic damage in an area for 1.2 seconds, slowing enemies within by 25%, and will then explode dealing damage in the area.
- Deals total of 201 damage to the main target and up to 176 damage to other enemies over the duration.
Perks
- This section features content or features that are not yet available in the game.
Minor Perks
A Minor Perk is unlocked at level 2.
- The counter resets if the player is not hit again within 0.5 seconds. Missing a shot does not reset the counter.
- Cannot trigger again on the same target until the slow has ended.
- Enemies revealed this way can be pinged through walls.
Major perks
A Major Perk is unlocked at level 3.
Strategy
Match-Ups and Team Synergy
When fighting Tanks, Freja has "Risk" ratings, ranging on a scale of 5 levels. This is because Freja primary focus, like any other DPS, is to pressure and eliminate the enemy team's Supports and other Damage heroes, with Tanks taking a lower priority:
- Extreme Risk | High Risk | Medium Risk | Low Risk | Very Low Risk
When fighting DPS & Supports, Freja has "Priority Targeting" & measures of "Risk" ranging on a scale of 5 levels. These heroes often pose the greatest threat to Freja or are key targets to eliminate:
- Very Strong Vs. | Strong Vs. | Even/Neutral Vs. | Weak Vs. | Very Weak Vs.
- Extremely High Priority | High Priority | Medium Priority | Low Priority | Very Low Priority
Synergies are also graded on a scale of 5 levels:
- Exceptional Synergy | Strong Synergy | Good Synergy | Ok Synergy | Weak Synergy

Story

Freja is a deadly tracker. A precision hunter. a force of unstoppable skill. Once Overwatch's most elite search-and-rescue operative,[1] Freja is now a notorious[3] and relentless bounty hunter who never misses her mark, bringing deadly accuracy and high mobility to the fight.[1] Usually operating alone, Freja will keep collecting bounties as long as they come her way.[3]
Freja tries not to think of her time in Overwatch. She is prejudiced against omnics, derogatoraily calling them "bots."[4]
Early Life
“ | I was a child when the Omnic Crisis hit Copenhagen. My mother was a diplomat. People looked to her for answers. She was the eye of the storm. Calm, constant, consistent. Through her, I learned that keeping people safe came down to a level head and a focused eye. But I wanted to be on the ground. In the storm. | „ |
~ Freja Skov |

Freja lived with her mother in Copenhagen when the Omnic Crisis began. Freja's mother was a diplomat, and after the beginning of the war, she quickly and efficiently liaised with the Danish Armed Forces and other military/civil branches. Freja was alongside her mother during the war's duration, and learnt that keeping people safe came down to a level head and a focused eye. However, Freja wanted to be on the ground, in the thick of the action.[5]

Long after the war, Freja studied criminology. Doing so gave her access to the latest tech, showed her how to stop and track threats before they began. She joined a local search and rescue team which offered her "hands on education." In so doing, she developed the expertise to find anyone in any place. She discovered the rush of seeing a job through to its end. Of doing something that mattered. After graduating from university, Freja briefly enlisted in the Danish Armed Forces, but she was singled out for recruitment by Overwatch. In truth, Freja had already had her eye on joining the organization, and when approached by Ana Amari, gladly accepted.[5]
Overwatch
“ | Being a part of Overwatch's search and rescue team gave me the opportunity to take my mission further. With their resources, no one in need of saving was beyond my reach. Our group didn't have the same cachet as those on the strike team. But I preferred staying behind the scenes. I only wanted to do my best work...and to work alongside the best. | „ |
~ Freja Skov |

Freja was assigned to Overwatch's Search and Rescue branch. She dedicated her life to Overwatch and its mission of global peace. While SAR didn't have the same cachet as Overwatch's strike team, this didn't bother Freja, as she preferred to stay behind the scenes. With the agency’s resources, there was no one Freja couldn’t find, no victim beyond her reach.[5] At some point, Freja was stationed at Watchpoint: Gibraltar.[4]
In one operation, she and her SAR team worked with the Overwatch strike team. They successfully conducted a hostage rescue operation. After the op, she was congratulated by strike team member Emre Sarioglu.[5]
The Deepsea Raiders
“ | Not everyone in the organization was perfect. Protocols were slipping...But I was only doing my job. That was my only concern. Through everything, leadership told us to stay the course. Some left. I kept going. | „ |
~ Freja Skov |

Freja remained in Overwatch SAR, steadily taking on more responsibities. When Overwatch engaged the Deepsea Raiders, SAR worked with the Overwatch strike team. Freja was ordered to evacuate civilians before Overwatch engaged. However, Gabriel Reyes and his team struck early, drawing the fighting into the city before SAR could complete its work. The result was fourteen dead civilians, and as Sarioglu made clear to Commander Jack Morrison, the casualties could have been higher if not for Freja's actions. Morrison brushed off Sarioglu's complaints, pointing out how complex such operations could be. Freja acquiesed, but Sarioglou left Overwatch.[5]
The End of Overwatch
“ | Yet the unrest seemed to grow from within...and without. I believed in Overwatch. I knew there were people who needed us. I was so focused on my work...I didn't see the whole thing crumbling...until it was too late. In the months of investigation after the destruction of Overwatch's Swiss headquarters...the success and efforts of the support teams...the ecopoint program, the medical research group, search and rescue, and so many more...were never considered. Most of Overwatch had done everything right. It didn't matter. | „ |
~ Freja Skov |

After Sarioglou departed, Freja was made head of Overwatch's Search and Rescue branch. Freja kept working, but anti-Overwatch sentiment continued to grow. Freja kept her head down—there were still people who needed Overwatch, but she was so focused on her work, she couldn't see how Overwatch was collapsing from the inside until the organization's headquarters was destroyed. In the months that followed, with the IJC hearings, Overwatch's record with search-and-rescue, ecopoint, and medical programs went unconsidered. In Freja's view, Overwatch had mostly done everything right, but to the IJC, it didn't matter.[5]
Bounty Hunter
“ | For too long, I thought I wanted to be like my mother. I tried living to help the world. Then the world decided it was better off without me. Now...I live for myself. | „ |
~ Freja |

After Overwatch was disbanded, Freja found herself adrift and purposeless. Out of work, Freja made numerous applications to Danish organizations, including the Danish Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense, and to the Danish Rescue Coordination Center. All of her applications were denied. One night, she noticed a bounty board in a city, and she realized that she could be of use in this new world. Knowing that the name "Freja" carried too much baggage as an ex-member of Overwatch, she adopted the alias "Gefn." After first, "Gefn" was no different a person than "Freja," in that she only took the kinds of jobs she would have as an Overwatch member—saving innocents and catching criminals. But with every job she took, she came to realize that not every "search" was a "rescue."[5]

As a bounty hunter, Freja attracted a different kind of clientele, one that showed her the true value of her skills. On the dark web, Freja sought out difficult targets targets, bounties no one else could deliver. The price mattered less than the challenge, and the rush Freja had once felt in SAR returned, now accompanied by the thrill of the hunt. For her, it was a second chance to take everything she knew and do something with it.[5] As a bounty hunter, she always worked alone.[6]
During her time as a bounty hunter, Freja came into contact with/was contacted by the omnic Maximilien. Maximilien gave her numerous bounties.[4]
The Hunt Begins
“ | You wanted me to come here tonight. This was all a test? It was a calculation. I had to be sure you were right for this. Right for what? For a...problem no-one else has been able to solve. I think you might find it particularly interesting. |
„ |
~ Freja and Maximilien |
Freja did a job for Maximilien that ended with a "problem" with payment. She took Maximilien's cargo as recompense.[6]

Three bounties were posted on three targets—Damian Barboza, Machete Betty, and Sahil Bhediya. She captured them and deposited them in a dock area for Maximilien and his guards to find. They did just that, and Freja approached from the shadows, stating that the targets were bounties, not gifts, and that she had indeed been the one to pilfer Maximilien's cargo, despite him feigning ignorance on the lack of payment for the last job. Maximilien asked Freja to explain how she was able to capture the bounties, but she refused to give details. Maximilien decided a demonstration was in order, which resulted in his guards firing on Freja. Freja evaded and incapacitated them, and for good measure, destroyed Maximilien's car as well.[6]

Maximilien applauded Freja's "demonstration" and paid her for the bounties, also allowing her to keep the cargo as a "bonus." Freja realized that the entire sequence of events had been orchestrated by Maximilien. That he'd wanted her to come here, tonight, and to engage in a firefight as well. He told her that he wanted to make sure she was up for the job he had planned. A job that no-one else had been able to solve for him. Freja initially refused, as she had other bounties to collect, but Maximilien revealed that he knew her real name, and gave her information on her next bounty—Emre Sarioglu. Freja told Maximilien that he should have led with this offer, and to leave Sarioglu to her.[6]
Trivia

- Her abilities bear resemblance to Huntress's.
- Freja's forename is the same as that of Freyja; a goddess from Norse mythology. Her surname, Skov, is of Danish origin and means "forest."
- Correspondence between Freja and Maximilien can be found on Circuit Royal.[7]
Misc. Character Information
- Freja only takes the "hard jobs" in regards to her bounties.[4]
- Freja often works for Maximilien, but she is not an employee of his. In her words, she calls the shots as often as Maximilien does.[4]
- Freja's favourite animal is the stoat.[4]
Development

Freja was first revealed as part of Blizzard's 2025 Overwatch 2 spotlight. Her internal codename was "Winddasher", referring to her wind-related abilities.[8]'
Freja was available for early trial from March 21 to 24, 2025.[9] She was positively received by players, who likened her to being a cross between Echo and Hanzo, with some elements from Sojourn.[2]
