Rounder

For the enemy virus known as Rounder in Japan, see Boomer.

Rounder (ラウンダー Raundā) is a flying enemy in Mega Man 5 created by Dr. Wily. They were supposed to attack enemies while moving around them, but as Wily forgot to install attack functions, Rounders just circle around Mega Man and interfere with his shots (which could be dangerous since it appears along with Subeils that also appear near the end of said stage). Rounders can also crash into Mega Man if he jumps before they begin to circle completely. They appear in groups of three at the end of the first stage from Proto Man's Castle, right before the boss gates. They can be easily destroyed with the Mega Buster, Water Wave, and/or Beat, but if ignored for a sufficient amount of time, they will eventually fly away.

Rounder II

Rounder II (ラウンダー2 Raundā 2) is a modified version of the Rounder in Mega Man 6. Two of them are the boss of Mr. X Stage 1.

Attack Pattern

Both of the Rounder IIs don't have an intro animation; as soon as the boss HP finishes filling up, they appear instantly. There is a large rail outline in the background that intertwines with itself, and the Rounder IIs are strictly confined to it. They are always opposite of each other on the rails, but move in the same general direction. Their movement speed is pretty fast, but in addition to just trying to collide with Mega Man, they can also drop small bombs out of their bottom hatches, and these bombs simply fall down in a straight line. The Rounder IIs automatically change direction after 6 seconds go by. Each of the Rounder IIs are only vulnerable to damage on their sides, specifically the orange pads. They also share the HP bar, with both of their HPs making up the full boss HP bar. If one Rounder II is destroyed, the other will not change strategy.

Weaknesses

The Rounder IIs have many weaknesses: the ones that do 4 damage to the total HP bar include Plant Barrier, Flame Blast, and the Power Adaptor. Plant Barrier is not recommended due to its short range and high ammo cost, while Flame Blast's trajectory for hitting the Rounder IIs is useful. Power Adaptor's fully charged punch has the advantage of automatically changing their direction if the hit lands (which affects both Rounder IIs, not just the one that got punched), making the fight much easier. Weapons that do 3 damage include Knight Crusher and Silver Tomahawk, and as with all bosses, this includes a fully-charged buster shot.

Other media

R6Rounder2

Rounder appears in the first episode of Mega Man: Upon a Star, being one of the robots that attacks an amusement park in Japan and combines into Samurai Man. Rounder II appeared in the Rockman 6 manga.
