Gyro Man

This article is about the Robot Master Gyro Man. For information on his NetNavi counterpart, see GyroMan.EXE.
"That is not a problem."
—Gyro Man, Mega Man & Bass database

Gyro Man (ジャイロマン Jairoman) is a Robot Master created by Dr. Wily that resembles a helicopter. He was originally planned to have a flying device, but it was replaced by a propeller built into his back due to cost issues (some sources say Wily's original design failed and he used a propeller because he was out of money - a theory that also supports the origins of Crystal Man). Gyro Man actually prefers this type of flight.

In Mega Man 5, he was ordered by Dr. Wily to take over a hanging garden and obtain money from the admission fee, but the attendance dropped as soon as he took over and Gyro Man became bored. His weapon is the Gyro Attack, small propeller-shaped cutters that can be controlled to move sideways, upward, or downward. He can't stand changes in gravity as they put stress on his propellers; not surprisingly, his weakness is Gravity Hold.

Appearance

Gyro Man is an average height humanoid robot with blue eyes. He wears a green-white helmet with a tiny white helicopter propeller on the forehead, and a green mouth cover joined in the middle by a yellow grate, resembling a fighter pilots helmet. He has a black lower body and a lime green chest plate with white pauldrons on each shoulder, and two red circular discs on each pec. On his back dawns a giant helicopter propeller with four white blades (black paint tips each blade). His arms are black with green bracers on each forearm, white gloved hands, and green leg braces/armor with a yellow armor piece on each knee. His feet resemble mini landing skids of helicopters.

Personality

Gyro Man is very proud of his flight abilities and his aerial lifestyle, but he tends to be both disdainful and contemptuous of others, feeling they are not worth his time; this has given him a bad reputation among his colleagues. Gyro Man enjoys playing with bamboo copters and eating gyros in his spare time. He dislikes jet engines.

Video game appearances

Mega Man 5

Gyro Man is one of the eight Robot Masters, and defeating him will reward the player with Gyro Attack and Rush Jet.

Attack Pattern

Gyro Man only has two attacks, but it should be noted that his arena has clouds covering the entire upper half of the screen. Gyro Man's main attack is to throw a Gyro Attack forward. The Gyro Attack is a spinning propeller that does quite the damage, and upon crossing Mega Man's x-axis, will stop to move up or down. This is dependent on whether you jumped over the projectile (to make it go up), you got hit, or you slid under it (to make it go down). Gyro Man does his next attack once the Gyro Attack leaves the screen, so it is advised to jump over it, keeping Gyro Man in place for a longer time. His second attack starts with him flying up into the clouds, disappearing from view. A Gyro Attack is then thrown from where he was straight down. Upon crossing Mega Man's y-axis, it will stop to move left or right. Once that projectile leaves the screen, Gyro Man drops straight down onto where the player was when the Gyro Attack disappeared, ready to start his next attack.

Weakness

Gyro Man is weak to Gravity Hold, which can defeat him in 7 hits. The weapon's nature of being a screen-nuke also means Gyro Man will take damage even if he is in the clouds. However, you will need a full bar of ammo as Gravity Hold only has 7 uses; use the ammo within intervals as not to have an attack overlap Gyro Man's i-frames. As with all bosses, Gyro Man takes 3 damage from a fully-charged buster shot.

Mega Man: The Power Battle

Gyro Man is one of the six bosses from the "Mega Man 3~6" course. He will throw a Gyro Attack when on ground. Later on, the screen will move and will try to dive at Mega Man and doesn't use the Gyro Attack unlike in Mega Man 5. He will also then double himself.

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters

"Your best chance is when Gyro Man lands on the ground! A multi-angle weapon is effective against flying mechs."
Dr. Light

Gyro Man is one of the six bosses from the "Search for Wily!" course. He behaves like the previous game, except he fires four Gyro Attacks at once and will shout "Jairo Atakku!" when he charges at the player character. He also has his propeller to defend him. Plant Barrier is his weakness.

Other appearances

  • Gyro Man has a cameo appearance in the opening of Mega Man 8.

  • Power Fighters: Gyro Man, who also appeared in PB, first appeared in Rockman 5. Due to a lack of funds, he has a propeller, but he makes the most of it to attack. His special weapon, the Gyro Attack, is very difficult to dodge when more than one is launched.

No036gyroman

Gyro Man appeared in the episode "Cold Steel" from the Mega Man animated series. Gyro Man, Spark Man and Gemini Man are disguised as a rock band that hypnotizes humans with their music. In the cartoon, the Gyro Attack is Gyro Man's own propeller instead of propeller-shaped cutters, and Mega Man is able to fly when using it. He is voiced by Garry Chalk regularly and by Jim Byrnes whilst in disguise.

Mega Man: Upon a Star

The Mega Man 5 bosses have short appearances fighting against Mega Man or helping Wily in the three episodes from the OVA.

Mega Man Megamix

In the manga, Gyro Man appeared in the story "Holiday of Soldiers", where the eight Robot Masters from Mega Man 5 have part-time jobs in an amusement park to obtain money for Wily. He operates the Roller Coaster. He also appears in Mega Man Gigamix.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)

Gyro Man debuted during the Worlds Collide crossover as part of Dr. Wily and Dr. Eggman's Robot Master army. While defending the Wily Egg, he teamed up with several other wind-based Robot Masters in pursuit of Tails, Sonic the Hedgehog's sidekick. His torso plate appeared in Issue 53 when Wily told Break Man his making various contingency plans.

Other appearances

Gyro Man also appeared in the Rockman 5 manga and Rockman 4Koma Dai Koushin.

Trivia

  • Gyro Man, along with Crystal Man, are the only two bosses in Mega Man 5 to take damage from each and every weapon.
  • "Greek Sandwich", Gyro Man's "like" in his English CD data, is likely a pun on the name of the gyro (pronounced "ghee-roh") sandwich.
  • Jupiter's quote, "Clear my way, you propeller scum!", probably refers to Gyro Man.
  • If the ceiling in his room is removed with a cheat device, he will fly above the screen, causing him to die, and Mega Man will be trapped in his room unless the player resets the game. [1]
B&CPSkyHighWing
  • The extra part "Sky High Wing" from Mega Man: Battle & Chase resembles Gyro Man's propeller.
  • Gyro Man's dislike of jet engines may be related to differences in cost when compared to propellers. Jet engines are expensive and fast, while propellers are cheaper and a bit slower.
  • Gyro Man looks remarkably similar to Tornado Man, as they are both green with a propeller somewhere on their body.
