My World (stylized in all caps) is the third mini album by aespa. It was released on May 8, 2023 with "Spicy" serving as the album's title track.
"Welcome To My World" was pre-released on May 2, 2023.
The physical album comes in 19 versions: Intro (individual member covers), Tabloid, Zine (Welcome To My World, Spicy, Barnes & Noble excl. & Target excl.), Poster (individual member covers, Walmart excl. and Amazon excl.) and SMini (individual member covers).
Background
On March 16, 2023, Star News reported that aespa will be releasing an album in early May. An hour later, SM confirmed the reports.[1]
On April 14, Spot TV News reported that aespa will be having their comeback on May 8 and that they are in the final preparations.[2] Later on that day, SM confirmed the reports and added that the promotion schedule will be announced soon.[3] On April 17, it was announced that aespa will be releasing their third mini album, My World, on May 8.[4] A pre-release single for the album titled, "Welcome To My World", will be released on May 2.[5]

On August 2, the music video for "Spicy" hit 100 million views.[6]
Composition
"Welcome To My World" is described as an alternative pop song with dreamy guitar riffs and grand orchestration throughout its second-half.[7]
"Spicy" is described as a dance genre song. The track features a strong synth base sound along with dynamic beats. The lyrics talk about being free spirited.[8]
"Salty & Sweet" is described as an intense dance genre song. The track is centered around rough synths and bass sounds. The playful vocal medley in the chorus is stated to be impressive. The lyrics talk about showing your Salty and Sweet potion-like charm to your opponent.[9]
"I'm Unhappy" is described as a charming pop genre song. It's a minimal track paired with dreamy and chic vocals. The lyrics talk finding true happiness without caring about how others look at it. [10]
"Thirsty" is described as a R&B genre song. The track features a harmony with aespa's sweet vocals and the dreamy track sound which stands out. The lyrics talk about the heart falling towards another person just like a wave and becoming thirsty the more you look at them. [11]
"'Til We Meet Again" is described as an impressive ballad genre song. The track has a warm acoustic guitar along with. beautiful strings which is also harmonize with clear ringtones.[11]
Promotions
Aespa held a countdown live through their YouTube channel, TikTok account, and Idol Pluss on May 8 at 5pm. During the live, the members communicated with fans, unboxed the album, and spoiled future plans.[11]
Aespa attended M Countdown, Music Bank, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo during the week of May 8 - May 14, where they performed "Spicy" along with either "Salty & Sweet" or "Thirsty".[12]
Reception
Critical reception
My World was ranked #4 on Billboard's top 25 K-pop album of 2023.[13]
Commercial performance
On April 24, SM Entertainment revealed that My World reached 1.5 million pre-orders. [14] On May 8, SM gave an update and revealed that the album had reached 1.8 million pre-orders.[15]
On May 9, Hanteo Chart reported that the album had sold 1,372,929 copies in its first day of release.[16][17] In one week, the album sold 1,698,784 copies.[18] On May 22, SM revealed that the album had reached 2 million copies sold.[19]
As of May 9, My World had reached #1 in 20 different countries on the iTunes Top Albums chart. "Spicy" also reached #1 on the Bugs real time chart.[20]
On June 8, in the monthly update for May, Circle Chart reported that My World reached 2,028,523 copies sold. It debuted at #1 on the monthly chart.[21]
On July 6, 2023, Circle Chart reported that My World received a double million certification for surpassing 2 million copies sold.[22]
My World debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 chart,[23] and #1 on the Top Album Sales chart, the Top Current Album Sales chart, and the World Albums chart, as well as #2 on the Tastemaker Albums chart.[24] It has stayed on the Billboard 200 chart for three consecutive weeks.[25]
On December 1, American magazine Rolling Stone ranked "Spicy" #95 on their 'The 100 Best Songs of 2023' list.[26]
