Downtown Grassland

Downtown Grassland is the second stage in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It is the second stage of Natural Plains. It succeeds Point of Arrival and precedes Through the Tunnel.

General Information

As Point of Arrival acts as an introduction to the game, this level instead teaches the player about Missions, hidden Waddle Dees, and the Vending Machine and Cone Mouthful Modes. It begins with a long dirt path featuring several Awoofies, Sir Kibbles, and other basic enemies. A Switch is found later along the path, opening a gate that reveals Strawberry Shortcake and a tunnel with several Pop Flowers. After this part, the player is given the Vending Mouth and several enemies to battle with it, before finding a garage. Point Star piles are found inside, and a ladder forces the player to discard the Vending Mouth. The ladder takes the player to the roof where the first Gotcha Capsule can be found. After this, a clearing guarded by an Awoofy and Buffahorn contains a Warp Star, which takes Kirby to the next section of the level.

The next section begins with a Cappy and Poppy Bros. Jr attacking the player, immediately followed by a short path filled with pipes and Shotzos on crates. If the crates are destroyed, the Shotzos will fall into holes where they cannot hit the player unless they too fall in. After this, the Cone Mouth can be used for the first time, being used to defeat many enemies and caving in cracks in the ground. Shotzos then return to shoot at the player, but a crack in the ground can be hit to open a safe underground path. Kirby can then head up to a balcony and ground pound into some Hard Blocks that contain another Capsule. For the final area of the section, Kirby must discard Cone Mouth (unless a precise glitch is performed) and choose between Bomb or Cutter to battle a few enemies and Wild Edge. Once he is defeated, Kirby must rescue the first hidden Waddle Dee for another Warp Star to appear. This takes Kirby to the final section of the level.

The final section places Kirby in a clearing with buildings to the left, right, and straight ahead. At the left building, Kirby battles some enemies before finding a Cone hanging by a vine, which he can cut with either Sword or Cutter. This allows him to defeat the Tortorner containing a hidden Waddle Dee. At the right building, Kirby battles more enemies before using Dome Mouth to reveal a Waddle Dee. Once the Waddle Dees are found, the player should proceed to the final building. The path goes upward in a spiral, with a Kabu and Buffahorn in the way. After this, the player should use the Cone Mouth to cause a leaky pipe to spew a geyser, taking them to the rooftop. Here, a Tortuilding attempts to bite the player, requiring them to hide in holes or behind pipes. One of the pipes has a red seal, which must be bitten by the Tortuilding before the player can ground pound it to create a geyser. They should then walk a small path containing another Capsule before ground pounding the Tortuilding, which after its defeat spawns the goal.

Missions

Italicized missions are hidden from view on the player's first playthrough.

  • Clear the stage: When Kirby clears the stage for the first time, he will automatically rescue 3 Waddle Dee prisoners from the golden cage.
  • Save the hidden Waddle Dees: 3 Waddle Dee prisoners can be found here, their locations being the following:
    • In plain sight after defeating Wild Edge.
    • Under a Dome Mouth on the right building in the final section.
    • Inside a Tortorner in the final section.
  • Make 5 tulips bloom: Kirby must touch 5 tulips to cause them to bloom, their locations being:
    • On a tree stump near the start of the level.
    • At the end of the tunnel revealed by the switch.
    • Off to the left of the path during the Cone Mouth segment, on a barrel.
    • To the right of a tree on the path to the final building.
    • Behind a Buffahorn at the final building.
  • Break the building's shutter: After the battle with the enemies while using Vending Mouth, Kirby immediately finds a shutter that can be destroyed after several hits from the Vending Mouth.
  • Ride the spewing water up to the balcony: After the Shotzos part of the Cone Mouth area, a pipe can be found on the right. Attacking the leaking pipe with the Cone Mouth bursts it open, creating a geyser that takes Kirby up to the balcony.

Trivia

  • A Blue Star Coin can be found on a roof by floating to the left while on top of the garage.
  • This is the first stage where a hidden Waddle Dee is required to be obtained in order to progress. This parallels first stages in other games, where the first of each game's main collectible must be obtained to progress.
