~ Forky's first word as he first time saw Bonnie's toys and thinking they're trash.
“
Forky: I am not a toy, I'm a spork! Woody: (whispering) Be quiet! Forky: I was made for soup, salad... maybe chili, AND THEN THE TRASH! (laughs) I'M LITTER! FREEDOM!!!
„
~ Forky's most famous quote while he's escaping from the RV for believing he's trash and not a toy.
“
Why am I alive?
„
~ Forky's second infamous quote.
Forky is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Buzz Lightyear) of Disney·Pixar's 21st full-length animated feature film Toy Story 4, the titular main protagonist of the Disney+ short spin-off film series Forky Asks a Question, and he is set to return in its upcoming 2026 fifth sequel Toy Story 5 in some capacity.
He is a sentient spork created by Bonnie during her kindergarten orientation who is unsure of his role as a toy. Bonnie made Forky out of the things Woody brought to her, gaining sentience from his creation.
He is voiced by Tony Hale, who also voiced Fear in Inside Out 2 and Jerome Squalor in A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Forky is a white plastic spork outfitted with a pair of different sized googly eyes, a mouth made out of a blue wax stick, two halves of a Popsicle stick for a pair of feet held together by clay, slender arms and hands made out of a red pipe cleaner, and a unibrow made out of a red wax stick. The halves of Bonnie's name are written on each side of the bottom of his feet (sticks) in blue marker. He also has a small rainbow sticker on his left foot.
Personality
Shortly after coming to existence, Forky was originally insecure and ignorant of his status as a toy. Because of this and how he was originally made from trash, he was initially uncomfortable of his newfound purpose and constantly wanted to throw himself away. Due to being recently born at the beginning of the film, Forky was also very naive which got him into trouble for those around him; particularly Woody.
When he came to the realization that Bonnie saw him the same way he felt towards being trash (a safe place that brings a warm cozy feeling), he slowly start to embrace his role as a toy (which he interprets as being Bonnie's trash). As a result, he became more confident and shows his more kind-hearted side during the times he spent with Gabby Gabby and helping his friends. By the end of the film, he appears to now accept himself as a toy and not trash.
Biography
Toy Story 4
Forky is first seen at Bonnie's kindergarten class being created by Bonnie. Despite that Bonnie wasn't allowed to bring any of her toys with her, Woody hides in her backpack and goes with her to make sure she has a good time. When they arrive, Woody sneaks out of Bonnie's backpack when nobody's looking, grabs some craft supplies and tosses them onto Bonnie's table. She finds them and uses them to make Forky. When driving back home inside Bonnie's backpack, Forky inexplicably comes alive much to Woody's surprise. When Woody returns to Bonnie's room, he presents the spork to the gang and Forky tries to find garbage cans and throw himself into them.
During Bonnie's RV road trip, Forky flees on the highway and Woody chases him, and while walking in the road, Woody tries to make Forky realize how lucky he is for being Bonnie's newest toy and then tells him about his life with his previous owner Andy Davis, including when Buzz Lightyear though he was a real space ranger when he first met him in the first Toy Story movie and when Andy gave Woody, Buzz and the rest of their friends to Bonnie in the third movie, and Forky explained to Woody he liked trash as it made him feel safe, to which Woody tells him that's how Bonnie feels with Forky and this convinces Forky to return with her, and on their way, they end up at Historic Grand Basin, and they pass an antique store, where Woody finds Bo Peep's lamp. They enter the store and encounter Gabby Gabby and The Bensons. The troupe captures Forky and keep him in the store.
Meanwhile, Woody reunites with Bo Peep and they work together to get through the antique store with Buzz, Ducky,Duke Caboom and Bunny and rescue Forky. When they arrive at the shelf where Forky is seen, they end up with a run-in with Gabby Gabby's gang and they exit the store, leaving Forky left behind again. After Woody leaving Bonnie's backpack in the store and giving Gabby Gabby his voice box, Bonnie finds Forky and takes him back to the RV.
Meanwhile, Bo Peep, Ducky, Duke Caboom and Bunny return to get Woody and Gabby Gabby to Bonnie. In the RV, when the toys head out to pick up Woody, Forky takes charge of the door to not let Bonnie and her parents in. Ultimately, Gabby Gabby ends up getting a kid of her own, Ducky, Bunny and Duke Caboom say goodbye to Woody and the gang, and Forky returns with the entire gang and Woody says goodbye to Forky and gives him a hug after Woody decides to spend a new life with Bo Peep. Inside the RV, when they are returning back to Bonnie's house, Rex asks if Woody is now a lost toy and Buzz says he is not a lost toy. Forky looks out at the window to see Woody one last time at the RV park.
A year has passed in a mid-credits scene, Jessie says that Bonnie had a great day in her first day in first grade and presents a new utensil toy knife named Karen Beverly, with whom Forky immediately falls in love. They slightly walk to each other and slowly introduce themselves. When her first question is "How am I alive?", Forky replies, "I don't know...".
Forky Asks a Question
Forky returns as the titular main protagonist of the 2019-2020 Disney+ short spin-off series, asking Bonnie's toys questions about life. He first introduces himself (and the person he's asking said question to) before asking the character:
"What is a Friend?" - Forky befriends Bonnie's mother's ceramic mug with a smiley face on and calls it "What-No!"
"What is Art?" - Forky asks Mr. Pricklepants what is art and the hedgehog uses theatre arts as an example.
"What is Time?" - Forky asks Rex what is time and the two bond over dinosaurs.
"What is Love?" - Forky asks Bonnie's four old baby toys what is love and a soap opera situation unfolds.
"What is a Computer?" - Trixie explains the Internet, but soon finds it impossible with Forky's antics and becomes outraged when Forky destroys the laptop.
"What is a Leader?" - Forky asks Dolly about leadership.
Forky was mentioned in the 2020 short film Lamp Life.

Trivia
Because Forky was not made with knees, he waddles. Ironically his Disney on Ice costume appearance does have knees so he could walk and skate properly.
The spoon and fork he's holding in his teaser poster say Pizza Planet on them.
His left foot later had a rainbow sticker added.
Forky holding the utensils also could be a reference to how WALL-E placed a spork between the spoons and forks.
He is the second spork to appear in a Pixar film, the first one being in WALL-E.
Forky received instant popularity in online communities shortly after his reveal, with many people claiming to relate to his personality and insecurities.[1]
Forky is the first toy character in the Toy Story series to be hand-crafted, the second being Karen Beverly (a.k.a. "Knifey"), who was also created by Bonnie Anderson.
Even after existing for about a year, Forky still doesn't know how he is alive.
Forky is a spork from Pizza Planet (the official Funko POP! says "Pizza Planet" on the back).
Along with a majority of Bonnie's toys, despite being a main character in the fourth film, Forky doesn't interact with the other main characters. He only meets Gabby Gabby,The Bensons, and Bo Peep (very briefly).
Like Buzz, he didn't like to be called toy until he knows the meaning of being toy.
In Forky Asks A Question, out of all the past Toy Story characters Forky asks questions, he doesn't ask any characters introduced in Toy Story 2. Hamm and Rex both debuted in the original Toy Story while Mr. Pricklepants, Buttercup,Trixie,Peas-in-a-Pod and Dolly all debuted in Toy Story 3.
