Emira Blight, also known as Em for short, is a supporting protagonist in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. She is the eldest child of Alador and Odalia Blight, the older twin sister of Edric Blight and the older sister of Amity Blight. She and Edric like to pull pranks on unsuspecting victims, including Amity.
While she started out as a bully to Amity, she and Ed eventually came to care for their younger sister as she handled her relationship with Luz Noceda. She also helped her siblings and Hunter fight against Emperor Belos and his coven.
She is voiced by Erica Lindbeck.
Appearance
Emira is a 16-year-old girl with light skin, long, dark green hair, and golden eyes. Despite being older than Edric, Emira is the shorter of the twins. She commonly wears golden earrings. Due to her acne, she often wears a green concealment stone on her chest to make herself look neat and refined in appearance, with her hair tied up in a long braid and one of her pimples disguised to resemble a beauty mark under her right eye, like that of her brother's.
In her common attire, she wears a dark gray undershirt, a maroon cardigan with a black belt, mauve shorts, and black slippers and footbands.
In her Hexside uniform, she wears a chain choker, a black-belted dark gray dress with a gold-buttoned black hood. She also has light blue pants to represent her enrollment in the Illusion track. Her sleeves were originally that color as well but were turned dark blue when she enrolled in the Healing track.
In "For the Future", Em appears with her original hairstyle, but no longer hides her acne. Her uniform is ripped and tattered and she wears over it a yellow sweater with blue and white striped rims and the word "GROM" on its center in blue letters, as well as grey boots that are stained purple at their tips, likely by Abomination fluid.
History
Season 1
Emira first appeared in "Lost in Language", where Luz Noceda meets her, alongside her twin brother Edric, in the Bonesborough Library after her offer to help is rejected by their younger sister Amity. She and the twins quickly hit it off over their shared love of mischief. However, Luz would start having second thoughts when Ed and Em revealed that they planned to post the pages of Amity's diary across Hexside in revenge for her snitching on their antics. Despite struggling over Amity's diary, Luz and Em ultimately leave the library on good, if strained terms.
Em and her siblings return in "Adventures in the Elements", where she has been making up for the library incident by helping Amity with her magic at the Titan's Knee. When Luz accidentally attracts a Slitherbeast, she and Ed attempt to subdue it, but are trapped in its lair alongside Eda Clawthorne. Fortunately, Luz and Amity defeat the Slitherbeast and free them. The twins later reappear in "Enchanting Grom Fight", where they help Luz and Amity train for fighting Grometheus and later appear at the Grom venue chatting to each other.
Season 2
In the first half, Em appears in "Escaping Expulsion", where she and Ed help sneak Amity, Willow Park, and Gus Porter into Blight Mansion to save Luz from their mother Odalia's wrath. Em later reappears in "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", where she helps Ed and especially Amity with their dating life, helping the latter come to terms with her feelings for Luz, giving her a makeover, and later watching as she kisses her for the first time.
In the second half, she appears in "Reaching Out", in which she reveals her normal appearances for the first time as she and Ed give their concealment stones to Amity to create a fighting costume for the Bonesborough Brawl. Em serves as Amity and Luz's medic during the fight, using her Healing magic to mend their battle wounds between rounds, and later asks Eda for a "Bad Girl Coven" t-shirt after she gives one to Ed.
Em also appears in "Labyrinth Runners" where, alongside her initial track of Illusions, she has now entered multi-track learning at Hexside, specifically learning both Healing. When Adrian Graye Vernworth and the Emperor's Coven arrive at the school and capture Gus, Em and her siblings help Hunter and the other Hexside students rescue him.
Em reappears in "Clouds on the Horizon", where she, Amity and Ed try to convince Odalia that Emperor Belos and the Day of Unity spells doom for the Boiling Isles, only to be captured by her and grounded under maximum security.
Season 3
Em makes a cameo, alongside Ed and their father, in "Thanks To Them" on a drawing by Amity put up in the Portal Shack.
She makes a full physical reappearance in "For the Future", where she shows up to hug Amity when she arrives at New Hexside, explaining that she and Ed escaped from the mansion during the Collector's reign.
Emira makes three appearances in the series finale "Watching and Dreaming": firstly as a petrification victim alongside her brother and father in Luz's Collector-induced nightmare, secondly cheering for Principal Bump alongside the other Hexside students as he returns after Belos is defeated, and thirdly in the epilogue where she is now an adult and is working as a medic alongside her father, healing those still bound by sigils. She later appears in the final scene attending Luz's quinceanara alongside her siblings and father.
Trivia
- According to Matthieu Cousin, Emira's early designs borrow design elements from Princess Zelda.
- As revealed in "Enchanting Grom Fight", Emira's worst fear is "being stuck with her brother forever". However, that might've also been a sarcastic quip out of annoyance towards him.
